One of the foods us Midwesterners like to enjoy during the Summer are bratwursts. Cook that bratwurst in some beer and you’ve got a classic Midwestern favorite made on the grill. I remember having beer brats at my exes cabin all the time whenever we went there and that was the first time I had one. I’m surprised it took me this long to share the recipe on my page and Beer Brats are an easy recipe that only require 3 ingredients. What are Beer Brats?
Bratwurts are a type of German sausage and these sausages are cooked on the grill and usually submerged in some beer and onions. You can use a skillet made for cooking on a grill like a cast iron or just one of those grill pans you can get at any grocery store or hardware store to cook the brats in.
How do you make Beer Brats?
I make my beer brats on the grill. Place the sliced onions in a grill pan and pour the beer into the pan. Add the bratwursts and cook them for 10 to 15 minutes. The onions should be nice and soft. Use any type of beer you have on hand, a 12 oz bottle is good.
How to make Beer Brats Weight Watcher friendly?
Find a chicken sausage or turkey sausage link that is low in points and a lite beer such as Miller Lite. Wal-Mart has a brand called Sam’s Choice Chicken Apple Sausage for 2 points. Johnsonville also has a chicken apple sausage brat for 4 smart points. Then just follow the recipe down below with the replaced ingredients. A regular brat is 9 smart points and if you eat right during the day with a couple opf low point meals you can enjoy a regular beer brat.
What can I put on top of my Beer Brat?
I really like caramelized onions, but you can add sauerkraut, ketchup, mustard, pickles, etc.

You can cook beer brats in a cast iron skillet on your stove top or in a pan in the oven if you don’t have a grill.

Beer Brats Recipe
6 Johnsonville Bratwurst
1 medium onion, sliced
1 12 oz bottle of beer (any kind)
Heat your grill up to a medium high heat. Place a grill pan on the grill and add the sliced onions to that and a can of beer. Add the brats to the pan and cook on high for 10 to 15 minutes. If you want your brats to be a darker grill color cook them on the grill and not in the pan for a couple of minutes.
