Crispy and crunchy air fried pickles are the perfect low point snack! Make your own dipping sauce for them or use whatever you have on hand!

    Air Fryer PIckles

Since owning my air fryer, breading food has become second nature to me. I’ve made chicken tenders, onion rings, ravioli, and even fish sandwiches. There are so many different options for breadcrumbs out there and the options are endless!

The only thing that does bother me about the air fryer is that you can’t use a wet batter.  I mean, you could probably heat up some oil in a skillet and finish the product in the air fryer but that defeats the purpose of air fryers being healthy. I would have loved to make these air fryer pickles with a beer batter. A beer batter is made up of flour, beer, salt & pepper. That is how most restaurants make their fried pickles but I chose to try this with a good ole packet of Shake N Bake. End result was crispy and crunchy flavorful pickles and they are good dipped in some Ranch dressing.

This recipe makes 2 cups of pickles so each serving is ¼ cup of pickles.

Keto or Low Carb Air Fryer Pickles

In order to make keto or low carb fried pickles in the air fryer take some pork rinds and pulse them in a food processor until they resemble bread crumbs. My recipe below uses shake in bake but you can always use this method as well. I've done both before!

How do you get the coating to stick to the pickles?

Pickles are very wet since they’ve been in that jar for a long time. You have to take the pickles out of the jar. Drain them and pat them dry very well with a paper towel. In fact, let them sit out for a while with a paper towel on top of them until they are dry.

What kind of pickles are best?

I used bread and butter pickles but you can use dill pickles. Pickle spears or pickle chips don’t matter either. Use whatever you have in your pantry or fridge.

Drain the pickles and spread them out on a paper towel-lined baking sheet. Pat dry with more paper towels, pressing gently to remove as much moisture as possible

Set up a breading station using 2 medium shallow bowls:

In a medium bowl, add Shake N Bake crumbs. In another bowl whisk the eggs and milk together until well combined.

Dredge pickle chips first in egg and then in the bread crumb mixture. Working in batches, place in a single layer in air fryer basket. Cook at 400° for 10 minutes.

    Serve warm with ranch.

    Oven Instructions:

    Preheat oven to 425.

Place the breaded pickles on a sheet pan and spread the pickles out so they do not overlap.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

    FAQ'S

What types of bread crumbs work best for air fryer pickles?

I’ve looked at many recipes on the internet and the most type bread crumbs used are panko, whole wheat, plain or seasoned bread crumbs, flour, or cornbread. If you are on a low carb or keto diet see the post above for making pork rind seasoned bread crumbs.

What is the best sauce for air fryer pickles?

Ranch dressing, homemade aioli, cajun dipping sauce, or even a sauce like at Chik Fil A would be great.

The coating did not stay on the pickles very well, and at 400 in my air fryer, the coating started getting really dark spots like it was burning. I took them out early and ended up putting them in my oven. I prefer a batter coating for my fried pickles. Too much seasoning in the shake n bake.
