When I was in college, I used to work at a dining center and on the weekends they'd serve brunch. Some of the employees would fight over who got to make the french toast and they had these huge grills that you'd make them on. The batter would be made ahead of time, so all you had to do was dip the french toast inside the custard and spread the toast on this huge grill surface. It was quite fun. That was one of my favorite jobs and it was fun to go to.
This french toast is pretty much the same recipe we used there. Huge slices of Texas Toast. Thanks to @talktrackingtome on Instagram for inspiring me to make this. The bread can either make or break the french toast in my opinion. Basic french toast custard consists of egg, milk, and vanilla. We would add in cinnamon. I'm pretty sure there wasn't really a basic recipe we'd follow we'd pretty much just winged it all the time. If you have more eggs then milk yours in good shape. Then there are the toppings. You could go pretty crazy for this but if you want to be super healthy some fresh fruit is always good on top with some sugar free syrup. Keep some frozen berries or fruit in your freezer so you just have to take them out and defrost them for a minute in the microwave.
