Salmon is a fish that is good no matter how you cook it! Have you ever tried grilling salmon on a cedar plank before? The wood helps flavor the fish and it becomes a 5-star restaurant quality dish.

Cedar Plank Salmon

Cedar plank is a type of wood that will help infuse food with a tremendous amount of flavor. The concept of cooking food on a cedar plank is pretty simple. Soak the wood before placing it on a grill for a couple of hours and place the fish on the plank. Soaking the wood first will help enhance the flavor and will help the wood from warping on the grill.

Where to find cedar planks?

You can find cedar planks in most hardware stores or grocery stores these days. They are also available on Amazon’s website. Buy them in packs cause this recipe is delicious and you’ll want to make this a lot during the Summertime!

Salmon

Should I use a whole salmon or salmon fillet for this recipe? Both work great. It just depends on how much salmon can fit into your planks.

Salmon isn’t the only type of fish that can be cooked on a cedar plank. Any type of white fish or seafood can be cooked on a cedar plank. Think cedar plank vegetable kabobs or grilled cedar plank burgers.

Flavorings

A seasoning salt of choice or a favorite marinade will be great with this. The salmon should be marinating when the cedar planks are soaking in water.

How to make Cedar Plank Salmon

Soak the cedar planks for at least 1 hour in warm water. Soak longer if you have time.

Season salmon with your favorite seasoning or marinade of choice. If salmon has skin on the bottom of the fillet, remove it, or else it will stick to the cedar plank.

Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat. Place the planks on the grate. The boards are ready when they start to smoke and crackle just a little.

Place the salmon fillets onto the planks. Cover, and grill for about 20 minutes. Fish is done when you can flake it with a fork or reaches a temperature of 135 degrees.  It will continue to cook after you remove it from the grill.
