Chicken parmesan casserole is a super-easy way to make the classic dish chicken parmesan. Simply layer bite-sized chicken breasts in a casserole dish and top that with garlic, cheese, marinara sauce, and garlic croutons. An easy weeknight dinner that your whole family will enjoy.

Chicken Parmesan Casserole

If you love the classic chicken parmesan recipe I do have a recipe for that that can be made in your air fryer or oven. However, if you are not a fan of the work that has to go into making chicken parmesan then you will love this casserole recipe.

When making the classic chicken parmesan recipe I would always hate the part where you had to coat the raw chicken in the eggs and then dip them in bread crumbs. I'm not a fan of touching raw chicken but with this casserole dish, you don't even have to do that. Plus, I love how the bread crumbs are actually croutons.

What do I need to make Chicken Parmesan Bake?

  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • hot red pepper flakes, to taste
  • 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts (I used 5, but they were huge!)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • ¼ cup chopped basil
  • 4 oz part-skim mozzarella, shredded
  • 2 oz Parmesan, grated
  • 1 (5-oz) package garlic croutons

How to make Chicken Parmesan Casserole

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Coat the bottom of a 9x13 inch casserole dish with cooking spray, and sprinkle with garlic and hot red pepper flakes.

Arrange the chicken breasts in bottom of the dish, and pour marinara sauce over chicken. Sprinkle basil over marinara sauce, and top with half the mozzarella cheese, followed by half the Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle on the croutons, then top with the remaining mozzarella cheese and remaining Parmesan cheese.

Bake in preheated oven until cheese and croutons are golden brown and the chicken is no longer pink inside, about 35 minutes to an hour, depending on the shape and thickness of your chicken breasts. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of a chicken breast should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).

Tips for Chicken Parmesan Casserole

By using leftover already cooked chicken you can cut the bake time of this recipe in half.

Use your favorite marinara sauce recipe or store-bought marinara.

Line your casserole dish with some aluminum foil before baking the casserole for easy cleanup.

Grate your own parmesan cheese and use the fresh stuff.

What to serve with chicken parmesan casserole? I would serve this casserole with some cooked spaghetti noodles and a side salad. If you are a carb lover like me, make some garlic bread on the side as well.

I saw this on Pinterest, too, and didn't much care for it. It was just so-so. Not bad, but I really didn't get all of the raves proclaiming this as the last Chicken Parm recipe you'd ever need! The search continues....
