Easter Egg Oreo Truffles

Oreos are one of my favorite cookies and I have many recipes on my blog that use them. Check out the links above the recipe for more recipes that contain Oreos. As you can see from the pictures, I try to decorate. I really do. 🙂 It's not one of my strengths when it comes to making sweets.

Whenever there’s a new flavor of Oreo out I immediately rush to the store and go find them. With truffles, you can use any flavor of Oreo cause all you do is add the cream cheese to them and shape them into a ball. I shaped them into eggs instead of balls this time, dipped them in white chocolate, and decorated them with frosting. So fun and also kills some time while you’re stuck at home and there’s nowhere to go!

Grocery List

Here is the basic rundown of what is needed for this dish. I’ve also included substitutes that can be used if you do not have any of these items.

Oreos any flavor will work for these truffles.

Cream Cheese - must be room temperature to incorporate into the Oreos better.

White Chocolate -  Any kind of chocolate is fine here. I prefer white because of how it adds more color. Chocolate chips really don’t remind me of Easter, I think of pastels.

For the frosting:  Homemade or store-bought is fine.  My Grandma’s recipe is below in the recipe.  I just love her frosting because it has a hint of almond extract in it and it’s a pure white color because it uses Crisco instead of butter.

How to make Easter Egg Oreo Truffles

Add Oreos to a food processor and pulse them until small crumbs form. Take them out and add them to a bowl with softened cream cheese. Stir with a spatula to combine. You can also gradually add the cream cheese into the Oreo Crumbs inside the food processor, but I have found that it doesn't blend well if all the cream cheese is added at once.

Shape the truffles into an egg shape. Your fingers are the best tools to use here. Place the truffles on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and place them in the fridge or freezer so they can set. 30 minutes to 1 hr.

Melt some chocolate in the microwave for 1 minute. Add some coconut oil to the bowl of chocolate before melting. The coconut oil makes the chocolate smooth and creamy.

Dip the eggs into the chocolate and coat all sides of the truffle. Place them on a sheet pan to let the chocolate harden.

Make the frosting: Add Crisco, milk, almond extract and 1 cup of powdered sugar to a the bowl and beat it with an electric mixer. Gradually add in the rest of the frosting. Separate the frosting into smaller bowls and mix in food coloring of choice. Then add the colored frosting to piping bags.

Decorate the eggs with different shapes and lines using all the different colors of frosting.
