Description

Sloppy Joes are messy and fun to eat. This is an Italian version of sloppy joes where the bread is Texas Toast and the toast gets topped with hearty meat sauce and some melted cheese! Kids will love this recipe for dinner!

Ingredients

Scale

8 slices of Texas Toast Garlic Bread

4 oz Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese

Spaghetti Sauce

1 pound lean Ground Beef 93%

1/4 cup chopped onion

1 15 oz can tomato sauce

1 12 oz can tomato paste

1 envelope Italian Mushroom spaghetti sauce mix

1 1/2 cups water

1/2 tablespoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon oregano leaves

1 clove garlic crushed

1 bay leave crumbled (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chop onion and cook it in a skillet over medium-high heat until the onion is cooked through. About 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until the beef is no longer pink in the middle. Drain any extra fat.
  3. Continue adding the tomato sauce, tomato paste, sauce mix, water, and seasonings to the skillet. Stir really well and let the spaghetti sauce simmer over low heat for 30 minutes. When the cooking is done remove the bay leaf out.
  4. Toast bread in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. When the toast is ready  Top with 1/2 cup of the spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese. Melt the cheese in the microwave if needed.
  5. Spoon the meat sauce over the Texas toast and top it with some mozzarella cheese. Place the basket back in the air fryer for 5 minutes or until the cheese has melted.

  6. Serving size: 1 slice of toast, plus 1/2 cup of sauce, 1 tablespoon of shredded cheese

The sugar is optional. I have tested this with and without and I couldn't really tell the difference if it was in there.
