Sugar-Free Isn’t Always the Best Option!
There is a trend online that is happening right now in the WW community and I have a love/hate relationship with it. Are you familiar with the Smart Sweet Gummies and ImBuilt Bars that everyone loves? I like everyone else was curious about these two products and when I got them I first raved about them on my Instagram account. I loved the fact that these gummy bears and candy bars tasted great but hated the fact how I felt after eating them. This didn’t occur to me until after the 4th day in a row of eating these gummy bears that my stomach was in knots and I was so gassy. I was thinking that there was something I was eating that made me feel this way and the gummy bears were something new that I had just started eating so I decided to stop eating them. The very next day after, I started to feel immediate relief and that right there was when I realized that my stomach does not like sugar substitues! My stomach is also very sensitive to other things as well such as dairy products and gluten. There is no gluten or any dairy products in the gummy bears as indicated on their bag.
Most sugar substitutes like Stevia, Soribitol, and Xylitol are laxatives and I had no idea about this until after the awful weekend I had eating these gummy bears and I started to research more about these ingredients. One day, I even ate 2 bags of them, can you believe that? Look up the side effects of these sugar substitutes and if you’re in for a really good laugh go to amazon and look up sugar free gummy bears. There are over 6,000 hilarious reviews on those tasty bears.
For a very long time, I have been wanting to try baking with these ingredients because I thought this is what makes baked goods low in points on WW. Regular sugar is so high in points on WW. I tried baking with Stevia, a product called xylitol, and some others like Sukrin Gold. I’m just going to stick with plain old sugar and powdered sugar from now on but eat it sparingly. If I want something like a sweet treat(I have a sweet tooth) or cake, I’ll take the real thing with no replacements and save up my points or calories for it. If you’re like me who has a digestive system that can’t tolerate sugar substitutes then I feel for you and I also envy those that do not have any stomach issues when it comes to products with sugar free replacements in them!
I also apologize if you find a recipe on my site that calls for sugar-free something. I had no idea I was intolerant to that stuff until this month!
Really effing cold outside!
We are now entering the dead of Winter where it is below 0 out for a couple of long weeks. I do not believe in Ground Hogs and I think that Spring comes every March on 21st. It’s the only time of year where I actually count down the days because of how cold and crappy it is outside. One thing I do like about Winter is seeing all the gorgeous sun dogs that come out during the day. That’s when you know it’s really cold outside if you see one off of those. it kind of looks like a mini rainbow in the sky and is usually seen by the Sun.
Random thoughts of a Food Blogger…
You might think being a food blogger is an easy job. Create a recipe, take the photos, make a video for the recipe, and post everything to your social sites. …. Pretty simple right?
Often times as a blogger, I’m left with certain thoughts in my mind and I wonder why I care. The Internet is full of ideas out there. A long time ago, it used to be if you saw a recipe idea somewhere that you mention their name or give proper credit to where you got the idea from. I’m not really sure if that is the case anymore.
The Internet is monkey see, monkey do now. If you see someone making parmesan garlic knots you make parmesan garlic knots, or air fryer chicken parmesan, or chicken cordon blue, etc… Did that person see my garlic parmesan knots recipe and get inspired by mine somehow? You won’t ever know because they never say where they were inspired anymore.
I’m trying not to let this bother me much but it is hard not to think thoughts like that.
