Patty Melts are highly versatile sandwiches, allowing you to customize them to suit your tastes and dietary preferences.

8 slices of sour dough bread

8 American Cheese Slices or Swiss Cheese, singles

4 frozen burger patties

1 cup of mild chedddar cheese

1 onion, thinly sliced

4 tablespoons of butter

Preheat your Blackstone griddle to medium-high heat.

Add a bit more butter to the griddle, and toss in the sliced onions. Cook them slowly, stirring occasionally, until they become golden brown and soft. This process can take about 10-15 minutes but is crucial for adding that sweet, rich flavor to your patty melt. Once the onions are caramelized, remove them from the griddle and set them aside.

While the onions are half way done cooking, place the patties on the other side of the griddle and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove the patties from the griddle and set them aside.

Butter one side of each slice of bread. On the unbuttered side, place a slice of Swiss cheese, followed by a beef patty, a generous helping of caramelized onions, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side facing out.

Place the assembled sandwiches on the griddle and cook until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Let it cool for a minute before slicing it in half and serving. Enjoy your delicious, homemade griddle grilled cheese!
