Description

Turn your pantry leftovers into the ultimate snack with these viral TikTok Trash Can Crackers! Coated in buttery Orville Redenbacher popcorn oil and savory ranch seasoning, this addictive cracker mix can be baked low-and-slow in the oven or smoked on the pellet grill for a backyard BBQ twist.

Ingredients

1/2 cup Orville Redenbacher's Popping & Topping Oil

1 packet Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning Mix

The Crackers: 1 box/bag each of Oyster crackers, Ritz crackers, Pretzel Crisps, and round crackers (like Town House or Club crackers).

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Heat your oven to 250°F (121°C).

  2. Coat the Mix: In a large bowl, gently toss your crackers and cereal with a mixture of melted butter (or oil), a packet of dry Ranch seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little kick.

  3. The 1-Hour Rule: Spread the mix onto a large baking sheet. Bake for 1 hour, making sure to stir thoroughly every 15 minutes. This keeps everything cooking evenly and prevents burning.

  4. Cool it Down: Let the mix cool completely on paper towels or a cold baking sheet. It will get even crispier as it sits!

Notes

Don't Over-Smoke: Because crackers are porous, they absorb smoke flavor incredibly fast. Stick to a light fruit wood (apple or cherry) and keep the time between 60 to 90 minutes max. Heavy wood like mesquite will turn the buttery flavor bitter.

The Container Choice: If you want to skip the bowl entirely for the mixing step, you can dump everything into a clean, brand-new 2-gallon Ziploc bag, pour the oil mixture over top, seal it with plenty of air inside, and gently roll it around.
