Description

Air frying brats is a quick, delicious way to prepare this classic sausage while reducing the amount of oil needed for cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 to 6 bratwurst sausages (depending on the size of your air fryer)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for extra browning)
  • 1 onion, sliced (optional, for serving)
  • Mustard or your favorite condiments, for serving
  • Buns

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Start by preheating your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). This step ensures that the brats start cooking at a consistent, high temperature, which is key to achieving that deliciously crispy exterior.
  2. Prep the Brats: If you desire extra browning, lightly brush each bratwurst with olive oil. This step is optional as the brats will cook nicely in the air fryer without added oil due to their natural fat content. If you’re using pre-cooked bratwurst, you can skip this step. For an added flavor twist, consider marinating your brats in beer or your favorite marinade for a few hours before cooking.
  3. Cook the Brats: Place the brats in the air fryer basket, ensuring they're not touching to allow for even cooking. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time. The brats are done when they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for pork and 165°F (74°C) for chicken or turkey brats, as measured with a meat thermometer.

Notes

Johnsonville Brats are 10 points for 1 brat. Find a low point bun to serve it with!
