Why You Will Like This Recipe

I love my air fryer for cooking bratwursts and sausage links. Instead of heating up the grill this Summer just heat up the air fryer. It takes no time to cook Bratwurst in Air Fryer and you can do this same method with any type of sausage.

Make some Easy Fruit Salad with Vanilla Pudding to serve as a side dish or some roasted Air Fryer Asparagus for a salad.

I like to serve bratwursts with some Air Fryer Cajun Tator Tots.

Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Brats

    • 4 to 6 bratwurst sausages (depending on the size of your air fryer)
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional, for extra browning) - can also use cooking spray
    • 1 onion, sliced (optional, for serving)
    • Mustard or your favorite condiments, for serving
    • Buns for serving

How to make Bratwursts in Air Fryer

Step 1: Preheat the Air Fryer: Start by preheating your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). This step ensures that the brats start cooking at a consistent, high temperature, which is key to achieving that deliciously crispy exterior.

Step 2: Prep the Brats: If you desire extra browning, lightly brush each bratwurst with olive oil. This step is optional as the brats will cook nicely in the air fryer without added oil due to their natural fat content. If you’re using pre-cooked bratwurst, you can skip this step. For an added flavor twist, consider marinating your brats in beer or your favorite marinade for a few hours before cooking.

Step 3: Cook the Brats: Place the brats in the air fryer basket, ensuring they're not touching to allow for even cooking. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time. The brats are done when they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for pork and 165°F (74°C) for chicken or turkey brats, as measured with a meat thermometer.

    1. Serve: Once cooked, let the brats rest for a few minutes before serving. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute throughout the sausage, ensuring your brats are juicy and flavorful.

    Air Fryer Recipe Tips:

    1. What to serve brats with: Serve your air fryer brats on a warm bratwurst bun with sliced onion and your choice of condiments, such as mustard or sauerkraut. Pair with a side of coleslaw, Weight Watchers Potato Salad, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
    2. Use a Light Oil Spray: Toss or spritz food with a little oil for that golden brown finish.
    3. No Overcrowding: Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure the brats cook evenly and get that desirable crispy exterior.
    4. Adjust Cooking Time: Depending on the size and thickness of your brats, as well as whether they're precooked or raw, cooking times may vary. Always check the internal temperature to ensure they're fully cooked.
    5. Experiment with Flavors: Feel free to experiment with different seasonings or marinades for your brats. Beer, apple cider, and various spice mixes can add an exciting twist to your dish.

    Recipe FAQS

What air fryer do I use?

I have two air fryers. The Cosori 4 Qt Air Fryer and Ninja Woodfire Grill which is an outdoor air fryer. It’s pretty awesome! It has 5 different functions on it.

    What is an air fryer?

An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks by circulating hot air around the food using the convection mechanism. It is a downsized version of the convection oven.

    Is air fried food healthy?

When you compare air-fried food to deep-fried food it is much healthier because there is hardly any oil used at all. The only oil I use is from my Pam cooking spray.
