Description
A good patty melt consists of decent bread, a burger patty, cheese, and caramelized onions. The hardest part of the recipe is waiting for the caramelized onions to get done.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
- salt and pepper (to taste)
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 8 slices of Light Italian Bread or Rye Bread
- 1 lb of 93% lean ground beef
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese (thinly sliced)
- Reduced sugar ketchup for dipping
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Shape the mixture into patties.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the patties in the air fryer basket and cook for about 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- While the patties are cooking, butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Place the bread, buttered side down, in the air fryer. Top each slice with Swiss cheese.
- Once the patties are cooked, place them on top of the cheese-covered bread slices. Add a dollop of thousand island dressing on each patty. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side facing up.
- Air fry the assembled patty melts for another 3-4 minutes until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted. Serve hot and enjoy your tasty air fryer patty melts!
