Air Fryer Patty Melts

Description

A good patty melt consists of decent bread, a burger patty, cheese, and caramelized onions. The hardest part of the recipe is waiting for the caramelized onions to get done. 


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced 
  • salt and pepper (to taste) 
  • 1 tsp onion powder 
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil 
  • 8 slices of Light Italian Bread  or Rye Bread
  • 1 lb of 93% lean ground beef 
  • Salt and pepper to taste 
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese (thinly sliced) 
  • Reduced sugar ketchup for dipping

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Shape the mixture into patties.
  2. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the patties in the air fryer basket and cook for about 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  3. While the patties are cooking, butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Place the bread, buttered side down, in the air fryer. Top each slice with Swiss cheese.
  4. Once the patties are cooked, place them on top of the cheese-covered bread slices. Add a dollop of thousand island dressing on each patty. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side facing up.
  5. Air fry the assembled patty melts for another 3-4 minutes until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted. Serve hot and enjoy your tasty air fryer patty melts!
