Description
A good patty melt consists of decent bread, a burger patty, cheese, and caramelized onions. The hardest part of the recipe is waiting for the caramelized onions to get done.
Ingredients
- 2 burger patties (pre-cooked or raw, depending on time)
- 4 slices of bread (sourdough, rye, or white)
- 4 slices of cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or American)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1–2 tbsp butter or olive oil spray
Instructions
Sauté sliced onions in a skillet with a little butter until soft and golden (10–15 min). You can also air fry them at 360°F for about 10 minutes, stirring halfway.
If raw: Air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway (until 160°F inside).
If pre-cooked/frozen: Heat at 360°F for 5–6 minutes until warmed through.
Lay down bread → cheese → burger patty → onions → another cheese slice → bread.
Lightly butter the outsides or spray with oil for crispiness.
Place sandwiches in the air fryer basket. Cook at 360°F for 5–7 minutes, flipping halfway, until the bread is golden and the cheese is melty.
