If you have a bag of frozen peppers and onions sitting in your freezer, the air fryer is the best way to cook them. They turn out tender with perfectly crispy edges and so much flavor. This is one of my favorite quick side dishes because there is no chopping, no skillet to wash, and it cooks in minutes.

Air fried pepper and onions on a white plate.

I used a frozen bag from Dollar Tree and they turned out better than I expected. The air fryer gives them those slightly charred, caramelized edges that you usually only get from a hot cast iron pan.

    Why Youโ€™ll Love This Recipe

    This recipe is:

    • Fast and hands off
    • Budget friendly
    • Made straight from frozen
    • Crispy and flavorful
    • Perfect for meal prep

The natural sweetness of the onions comes through as they cook and the peppers get those golden brown spots that make everything taste like fajitas.

Ingredients needed for Peppers and Onions

    • 1 bag frozen peppers and onions
    • Cooking spray or a light drizzle of oil
    • Salt and pepper
    • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, chili powder, taco seasoning, or Italian seasoning

How to Make Air Fryer Peppers and Onions

Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees. Add the frozen peppers and onions to the air fryer basket. There is no need to thaw them.

Spray lightly with cooking spray and season with salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings you like.

Air fried pepper and onions in an air fryer basket.

Air fry for 10 to 15 minutes.

Shake the basket halfway through cooking so they cook evenly and get crispy on all sides.

Air fried pepper and onions in a basket.

They are done when the onions are golden and the peppers have slightly charred edges.

    Tips for Crispy Vegetables

    • Do not overcrowd the basket. Cook in batches if needed.
    • A light spray of oil helps with browning.
    • Cook at a high temperature.
    • Shake halfway through cooking.

That is what gives you those crispy edges instead of soft steamed vegetables.

    What to Serve Them With

These air fryer peppers and onions go with just about everything. I love making a batch at the beginning of the week and adding them to meals.

    They are great in:

    • Taco bowls - Ground Beef Taco Bowls
    • Breakfast quesadillas
    • Egg sandwiches
    • Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas
    • Weight Watchers Burrito Bowls Low Smart Points
    • Wraps
    • Pizza
    • Quesadillas -
    • Sausage and potato skillets
    • Over rice with grilled chicken or steak

You can even mix them into scrambled eggs for an easy high protein breakfast.

    Storage and Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To reheat, place them back in the air fryer for a few minutes at 375 degrees to bring the crispiness back.

    Final Thoughts

This is one of the easiest air fryer side dishes you can make and it is perfect for busy nights. Using a frozen bag from Dollar Tree keeps it affordable and convenient, and the air fryer makes them taste like they were cooked fresh.

Once you try frozen peppers and onions in the air fryer, you will never go back to cooking them on the stove.
