Why You Will Love Taco Bowls
Typically, a taco bowl starts with a layer of rice or grains. Cilantro-lime rice is a popular choice, adding a zesty kick that complements the other flavors.
For a healthier option try brown rice, quinoa, or cauliflower rice, which adds a nutritious element without compromising on taste.
Another beloved base is a bed of greens. A mix of romaine lettuce, spinach, or kale provides a fresh, crunchy foundation that pairs well with the warm, savory toppings. This option is particularly appealing for those looking to reduce their carb intake or add an extra serving of vegetables to their meal.

How to Make Ground Beef Taco Bowls
Step 1: Prepare the ground beef. Start by heating a skillet over medium-high heat and adding a bit of oil. Once the oil is hot, add one pound of ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon or spatula.
Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat, then return the skillet to the heat and add your seasonings.
Add in taco seasoning to ground mix. Add the seasoning into the beef, adding a bit of water to help it blend and coat the meat evenly. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes until the liquid has mostly evaporated, then remove the skillet from heat.
Step 2: Cook the rice however you like. I like the 90 second microwave taco bowls that cook in super fast in the microwave.
Step 3: Assemble your taco bowls. Start by filling each crispy bowl with a generous scoop of the seasoned ground beef. Then add your favorite toppings.
Protein for Taco Bowls
The protein component is the heart of the taco bowl, offering both flavor and sustenance. Ground beef seasoned with classic taco spices is a traditional favorite, but the possibilities are endless.
Shredded chicken, grilled shrimp, or even fish can bring a unique twist to your bowl. For a plant-based option, black beans, chickpeas, or tofu seasoned with the same spices can deliver the same satisfying experience.
Toppings for Taco Bowls
What truly sets taco bowls apart is the array of toppings that add color, texture, and layers of flavor.
Vegetables: Fresh vegetables like diced tomatoes, sliced bell peppers, corn, and red onions bring brightness and crunch. Avocado or guacamole adds a creamy element, while a sprinkle of cheese—be it cheddar, cotija, or a Mexican blend—brings a rich, savory note.
Salsa: And let’s not forget the importance of a good salsa or pico de gallo, which can tie all the elements together with its tangy, zesty goodness.
Sour Cream and Guacamole A well-chosen dressing or sauce can take your taco bowl from good to extraordinary. A dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt can add a tangy creaminess that balances the spices. For a lighter option, a squeeze of fresh lime juice or a vinaigrette made with olive oil, lime, and a touch of honey can be refreshing and bright.
Sauces: For those who love a bit of heat, a chipotle mayo or a spicy ranch dressing can add a delicious kick. The key is to choose a dressing that complements the flavors of your bowl without overwhelming them.
How do I store leftovers?
Always store leftovers in clean, food-grade containers. The type of container doesn’t really matter. Use zip lock, glass, plastic, whatever! Make sure to store any leftovers in an airtight container.
