    Why This Works

    • Beautiful red, white, and blue layers make it perfect for patriotic holidays.
    • Only a handful of simple ingredients are needed.
    • Ready in less than 5 minutes.
    • Kid friendly and easy to customize.
    • Great for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day.
    • Can easily be made into an adult cocktail by adding vodka or coconut rum.
    • A refreshing drink that is perfect for hot summer days.
    • No special equipment required.

Ingredients Needed for Bomb Pop Drink

    • Blue Gatorade creates the bright blue bottom layer and adds a sweet blue raspberry flavor that mimics the classic Bomb Pop popsicle.
    • Sprite gives the drink its refreshing lemon lime flavor while creating the bright white center layer. Any lemon lime soda works well.
    • Grenadine is a sweet pomegranate flavored syrup that slowly drips through the soda to create the beautiful red streaks at the top of the drink.
    • Ice helps keep the layers separated while making the drink extra refreshing.
    • Whipped Cream is optional but makes the drink feel more like a festive dessert.
    • Red, White, and Blue Sprinkles add the perfect patriotic finishing touch for parties and celebrations.

How to Make Bomb Pop Drink

Fill a tall clear glass about three quarters full with ice.

Pour the Blue Gatorade into the bottom of the glass until it fills about one quarter of the cup.

Slowly pour the Sprite over the back of a spoon so it gently floats on top of the blue layer. Pouring slowly helps maintain the layered appearance.

Drizzle the grenadine over the top. It will slowly sink through the Sprite, creating beautiful red ribbons while leaving the top bright red.

Top with a generous swirl of whipped cream and decorate with patriotic sprinkles if desired.

Serve immediately while the soda is still bubbly and enjoy.

Pro Tips for Bomb Pop Drink

    • Use a clear plastic cup or tall glass so the colorful layers are easy to see.
    • Pour each liquid slowly to help prevent the colors from mixing together.
    • Very cold ingredients work best for creating clean layers.
    • Avoid stirring before serving. The layered presentation is part of what makes this drink so fun.
    • For an adult version, add one ounce of vodka, white rum, or coconut rum before pouring in the soda.
    • Try substituting blue raspberry sports drink with blue raspberry lemonade for a slightly different flavor.
    • Use crushed ice if you want even slower mixing between the layers.

    Storage

This drink is best enjoyed immediately after making it.

Because Sprite is carbonated, the bubbles will fade if the drink sits too long. The colorful layers will also begin to blend together over time.

If you're serving a crowd, prepare the glasses with ice and Blue Gatorade ahead of time. Add the Sprite, grenadine, whipped cream, and sprinkles just before serving for the best presentation.

    Serving Suggestions

Pair this Bomb Pop Drink with your favorite summer cookout foods like hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, or barbecue ribs.

Serve it alongside fresh fruit, pasta salad, potato salad, chips and dip, or watermelon slices for an easy holiday spread.

For a festive dessert table, enjoy this drink with sugar cookies, brownies, rice crispy treats, cupcakes, or Bomb Pop popsicles.

This drink is also a fun addition to birthday parties, pool parties, Memorial Day celebrations, Labor Day gatherings, and summer picnics.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make this ahead of time?

It is best made right before serving. The carbonation and colorful layers are at their best when freshly prepared.

    Can I use another soda?

Yes. Any lemon lime soda such as 7UP or Starry works well in place of Sprite.

    What does grenadine taste like?

Grenadine is sweet with a fruity flavor that is commonly associated with cherry, although it is traditionally made from pomegranate.

Can I make it less sweet?

Yes. Replace part of the Sprite with sparkling water or use a zero sugar sports drink if desired.
