There’s nothing better than a crispy chicken sandwich — especially when it comes together in minutes. You can make your own, but there are plenty of good frozen chicken patties out there to use! Whether you’re using frozen patties from Aldi, Dollar Tree, or Costco (yes, I’ve tested them all!) or making your own from scratch, this recipe is fast, budget-friendly, and super satisfying.

I love this recipe because it gives you all the comfort of a takeout chicken sandwich but with way less grease and a lighter touch. Plus, it’s so customizable, you can go classic, make it spicy, or even wrap it up in a tortilla if you’re not feeling bread.

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

I must admit, I’ve been loving Dollar Tree chicken sandwiches lately - the Fast Bites one. There’s a spicy chicken sandwich and a plain chicken sandwich. The bun, however, is not so tasty, and that’s where Aldi’s Brioche buns come in. I air fry the chicken patty and then toast the buns in the air fryer, layering them with toppings. Delicious, easy meal. It’s also about 26 g of protein. This Air Fryer Chik Fil A Sandwich won’t stand a chance!

After browsing the beauty and snacks aisle, I head on over to the freezer section and grab a few of these to keep in my freezer. Here are some other reasons you might enjoy this!

    • Quick & convenient – Dinner is ready in under 15 minutes.
    • Budget-friendly – Perfect if you stock up at Aldi and Dollar Tree. I've been spending about 75$ a month on groceries and thanks to only shopping at these 2 stores I'm now at 55$ a month.
    • Customizable – Change up the buns, toppings, or sauces to make it your own.
    • Better than fast food – Crispy outside, juicy inside, without the drive-thru line.

Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Chicken Sandwich

Here’s what you’ll need for the ultimate chicken sandwich:

    • Chicken patty – frozen or homemade; crispy breaded works best. I like Fast Bites chicken sandwiches.
    • Bun – brioche for indulgence, sourdough for sturdiness, or even a tortilla for a wrap.
    • Lettuce & tomato – fresh crunch that balances the richness.
    • Cheese – Swiss, cheddar, or pepper jack if you like a kick.
    • Sauce – mayo, ranch, or hot sauce for a little heat.

💡 Substitutions: Swap the bun for lettuce wraps to keep it lighter, use dairy-free cheese, or drizzle honey mustard instead of mayo for something sweet and tangy.

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Sandwiches

Cook the chicken patty Air fryer: 400°F for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy and hot. Oven: 425°F for 15–18 minutes.

Prep the bun Toast lightly in the air fryer or oven for extra flavor.

Assemble Bottom bun → sauce → lettuce → tomato → chicken patty → cheese → more sauce → top bun.

Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Pair with Air Fryer Steak Fries (Aldi and Dollar Tree both carry great budget options).
    • Add a side salad if you want something lighter.
    • Or make it a “fast food night at home” — serve with chips, pickles, and a cold soda.

    Nutrition & WW Points

This will vary depending on which chicken patty and bun you use. For example:

    • Standard breaded patty + brioche bun + mayo: ~430 calories, 21g protein.
    • Lightened version with wrap + lettuce + mustard: ~290 calories, 19g protein.

💡 Tip: I always calculate my WW Points in the app based on the brand I use.

    Recipe FAQS

Can I use raw chicken breasts instead of frozen patties?

Yes! Just season, bread, and air fry a chicken breast (400°F for about 15 minutes).

    Can I make these ahead?

They’re best fresh, but you can air fry the patties and reheat in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes.

What’s the best sauce to use for an air fryer chicken sandwich?

Totally up to you! Mayo is classic, but I love mixing a little hot sauce into ranch for a spicy twist.

✨ This air fryer chicken sandwich has become one of my go-to easy dinners — and the best part is you can make it your own. Next time you’re at Aldi or Dollar Tree, toss a pack of chicken patties in your cart. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself on a busy weeknight.
