Air fryer calzones are a delicious and healthier alternative to the traditional deep-fried variety. These Italian-inspired turnovers, filled with a variety of ingredients such as cheese, meats, and vegetables, are perfect for a quick snack or a satisfying meal.

Air fryer calzones are a delicious and healthier alternative to the traditional deep-fried variety.

The air fryer’s circulating hot air ensures that the calzones come out crispy on the outside while remaining tender and flavorful on the inside, without the need for excessive oil.

Why You Will Like Air Fryer Calzones

Cheese and Sausage Calzones are the perfect after school snack or even for a football game party. I like to order Pizza Hut's calzones from time to time.

It makes me feel less guilty ordering those instead of ordering a whole entire pizza just for myself and sometimes I feel just ordering one of those is way too much for me!

I'm a light eater, and usually, I can just eat half a calzone and I'll save the other half for the next day. Calzones are just stuffed pizzas without the sauce. However, a lot of people like to dip their calzones in marinara sauce or pizza sauce. The possibilities are endless with calzones.

Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Calzones

    • ½ cup of store bought marinara sauce
    • 1 oz of  part-skim  mozzarella cheese
    • ¼ cup of Non Fat Greek Yogurt
    • ¼ cup of Self Rising Flour
    • 1 oz  turkey sausage, cooked
    • parlsey for garnish
    • parmesan cheese (optional)
    • 1 egg for brushing on top

How to make Air Fryer Calzones

Step 1: Preheat oven or air fryer to 350 degrees.

Step 2: Mix the greek yogurt and self rising flour together in a bowl. Roll out pizza dough into large rectangle and divide into 4 equal rectangles.

Step 3: Use about 2 tablespoons of the sausage and 1 tablespoon of cheese and place that into the center of the pizza dough.

Step 4: Fold the pizza dough over the meat and cheese mixture and crimp it shut. Crimp the outer edges in and then use a fork to make the indents.

Step 5: To make an egg wash, whisk the egg together and brush on top of the calzone.

Step 6: Bake the calzones in a 350-degree oven for 20 -25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve with warmed up marinara sauce! Enjoy!

    Air Fryer Calzone Tips

Dip the air fryer calzones in your favorite marinara sauce!

The recipe below calls for oven instructions. If you wish to air fry these, set your air fryer to 350 Fahrenheit. Bake one side for 6 minutes and flip them over for another 6.

Brush the calzones with an egg wash on them to get them nice. An egg wash is just a beaten egg. Whip it really hard with a fork and then use a pastry brush to brush it on the dough.
