Why You Will Like This
This is one of those recipes that makes the days after Thanksgiving just as delicious as the holiday itself. It is hearty, cozy, and easy to customize with whatever leftovers you have in the refrigerator.
This is super duper easy to make. You can also use a jar of gravy to make it way easier!
Ingredients for Shepherd's Pie
- Frozen mixed vegetables: Peas, carrots, and corn add color, texture, and flavor to the filling.
- Leftover chopped turkey (99% fat-free cooked) - Shredded or chopped leftover turkey is the star of this recipe. Both white and dark meat work well.
- 2 12 oz jars of chicken gravy
- 2 tablespoons of light butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 ¼ cups of leftover mashed potatoes (see notes)
- 1 cup of Monterey Jack cheese (reduced-fat
Optional Ingredients
If you have leftover mashed sweet potatoes you can use that as a sub for regular mashed potatoes
Add some thyme, garlic, or Worcestershire Sauce for extra flavor.
If you don't have any leftover turkey feel free to sub ground turkey mixture, ground lamb, or ground beef.

How to make Turkey Shepherd's Pie
Step 1: Chop up any leftover vegetables you have on hand. Carrots, Onions, Celery... Dice the turkey into cubes. Cook the veggies in a skillet with a little bit of butter.

Step 2Add in turkey and gravy. The gravy can be leftover but I just used some store-bought gravy.

Step 3: Pour the contents in the skillet into a casserole dish and spread any leftover mashed potatoes on top.

Step 4: Top with cheese and heat up in the oven. This was so stinking good and would make any meat and potato lover happy. I'm going to start adding this to my menu rotation more. Enjoy!
Pro Tips for Leftover Turkey Shepherd's Pie
Use a combination of white and dark turkey meat for the best flavor and texture.
If your leftover mashed potatoes are very thick, stir in a little milk or broth to make them easier to spread over the filling.
Do not skip the Worcestershire sauce. Even a small amount adds wonderful savory flavor to the turkey filling.
For an extra golden topping, place the casserole under the broiler for a minute or two at the end of baking. Watch it carefully so the potatoes do not burn.
You can also add leftover gravy directly to the filling. Reduce the amount of broth or cream soup slightly if your gravy is already fairly thin.
Storage and Freezing
Store leftover Shepherd’s Pie in an airtight container or cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or foil. Refrigerate for 3 to 4 days.
Reheat individual portions in the microwave until heated through. You can also reheat the casserole in a 350°F oven until hot in the center.
To freeze, allow the casserole to cool completely before transferring it to a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
Serving Suggestions
Leftover Turkey Shepherd’s Pie is hearty enough to serve as a complete meal, but it also pairs nicely with a simple green salad or roasted vegetables.
Serve it with leftover cranberry sauce for a sweet and tangy contrast to the savory turkey filling. A side of green beans or roasted Brussels sprouts also makes a great addition.
For a casual post-holiday dinner, serve individual portions with a little extra gravy spooned over the top.

How is this a WW recipe? NO FOOD is off limits on WW and WW themselves stresses that a lot on their social media pages. I get this question quite a bit on Pinterest and it just bugs me when people ask that because they don’t believe that you could possibly eat this while you’re on a diet. That is one reason why I love WW. You can pretty much eat ANYTHING just as long as you stay in your daily points range for that.
