Today I tried the custard toast that is trending on Tiktok right now and you can easily make this in an air fryer! Is custard toast causing avocado toast go out of style? Only time will tell. 😉 I love trying the viral recipes out and sharing them on this blog.

I’m also easily influenced by anything I see on social media. When the Dyson air wrap was in stock, I immediately ordered it and I have zero regrets buying that! Lululemon has always been a favorite store of mine and I see more and more females shopping there now. Yes, their leggings are definitely worth $100 for a pair of pants. Also, a good skin care routine is a must, especially in the Wintertime!

What is Custard Toast?
Custard toast is a piece of bread that has a custard filling in the center of the toast. You can top it with any type of fresh fruit you have available or defrost some frozen fruit. It almost reminded me of french toast. The custard is made of yogurt, egg, and maple syrup. I want to try this again but with a good loaf of artisan-style bread because the type of bread you use will make all the difference. It can also be made in the air fryer or any type of air fryer oven.
What Ingredients do I need?
- Bread - use a good crusty artisan loaf of bread like sour dough or a whole grain
- Yogurt - vanilla or Greek yogurt
- Lemon Peel or Zest - optional
- Maple Syrup - for sweetness - can use sugar substitutes if you like
- Egg - 1 large egg
- Mixed berries - blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries
How to make Custard Yogurt Toast
- Add the yogurt, egg, maple syrup, and lemon zest to a bowl. Whisk to combine.
- Flatten out a piece of bread or make a large indentation with the back of fork or spoon.
- Gradually pour the custard on top of the bread and top with berries.
- Air fry at 350 or 8 to 10 minutes.
Serving Suggestions
- Scrambled or soft-boiled eggs – for protein and to balance the sweetness
- Air Fryer Turkey Bacon (Ready in 8 minutes) light but savory
- Protein Yogurt Parfaits – adds more protein and complements the creamy toast
- Fresh fruit salad – berries, melon, kiwi, citrus all work well
- Air Fryer Avocado Toast– adds savory contrast
- Air Fryer Frozen Waffles – if you’re going full brunch mode
Recipe FAQS
Custard toast is a viral TikTok breakfast trend made by pressing down the center of a slice of bread, filling it with a simple custard (usually made with yogurt and an egg), topping it with fruit or sweet extras, and air frying or baking it until golden.
Yes! Bake it at 350°F (175°C) for about 10–15 minutes until the custard is set and the bread is crispy.
Absolutely—Greek yogurt works great. It makes the custard creamier and adds a boost of protein. Use plain or vanilla for the best results.

Yes I agree on the bread!

I did not have any fruit so choose coconut flakes and almond slices and added a tsp if cinnamon. I dipped the entire top in the batter and then filled the indent with more, dipping it made for a lovely carmelization around the edges. Really delicious recipe. Next time I'll definitely use a better bread like a brioche.

Can you not find that online?

Hi! Do you know what time/temp I'd cook this at in a regular oven? I don't have an air fryer, no room...
