Homemade Twix Bars are layers of shortbread cookie crust, caramel, and chocolate. They are so much better than storebought Twix candy bars and are so easy to make with just 3 simple steps.

Homemade Twix Bars

Since Halloween is coming up and Twix bars are my second favorite candy bar next to Reese’s, it’s only appropriate to have a recipe for them. If you have never tried making a homemade Twix bar before you are missing out. I think homemade is way better than the store-bought Twix candy bars in the store.

Sweets are something that I don’t make very often. I can not keep candy or a whole entire pan of brownies or pie in my house. I’m afraid I’ll just sit there and eat the whole thing at once. If I do bake I will plan out one fun treat to try for the week.

I recently updated this recipe because there was a somewhat slightly confusing step that involved grinding up some rice in a food processor. When you bite into a Twix bar it kind of has that crunchiness to it and that was the whole idea behind that but now when I look at that, that is just WEIRD. I don’t know what my old blogger self was thinking grinding up rice in a food processor to make Twix Bars??? Today my only thought behind a recipe is that it has to be EASY. Not stupid. Ha

How to make Twix Bars

Making homemade Twix Candy bars involves 3 simple steps. The cookie layer, caramel layer, and chocolate layer.

Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Line a 9×9 pan with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.

Cookie Layer: Combine the flour and sugar in a medium-sized bowl. Then cut the butter in with a pastry cutter or two forks, until it forms a crumb mixture. Then press down into the pan and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

For the caramel layer: Melt the caramel and cream in 30-second intervals in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring in between. This can also be done on the stove. Stir until smooth. Pour the caramel over the cooled crust and set in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to chill and firm up.

To make the chocolate layer: Melt the milk or dark chocolate slowly in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Add a tablespoon of shortening to thin it out if desired. Pour evenly over the chilled caramel layer and spread to cover all of the caramel.

Notes

Not WW friendly

Store twix bars in fridge. Caramel becomes really soft if left out.
