Are you looking for a low sodium taco seasoning recipe that is similar to those store bought taco seasoning packets? Look no longer because you have found the only recipe for taco seasoning you need!

Happy belated Taco Tuesday! I thought I'd finally share how I make my beef tacos.
Don't Buy The Packets!
For the longest time, I have been using store bought seasoning packets. I remember growing up as a kid and tacos were made in the house, that is what my mom or dad always used. EASY right? My favorite taco seasoning packet is Mrs. Dash because it is low in sodium. I thought it was time that I started making my own taco seasoning without all the extra added salt. If you use a packet of taco seasoning I won't tell anyone. 🙂
When you are ready to add your low sodium taco seasoning to the skillet make sure all the fat is drained first. Add in 7 teaspoons (that is equivalent to 1.5 oz packet of taco seasoning a long with ¾ cup of water. Let the taco seasoning and water simmer with the beef for 3 minutes on medium low until the beef mixture has thickened.

Ingredients Needed for Taco Seasoning
All you need to make taco seasoning is 4 basic spices. I always keep chili powder, cumin, onion powder, and garlic powder on hand. These are the same spices that are also found in chili.
1½ Cups chili powder
¾ Cups cumin
6 Tablespoons paprika
2 Tablespoons garlic powder
2 Tablespoons onion powder
6 Tablespoons cornstarch
How to Make Low Sodium Taco Seasoning
- In a jar with a tight fitting lid, combine chili powder, paprika, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, and cornstarch. Close lid securely, and shake well to mix contents. 7 teaspoons is equivalent to 1 (1.25 ounce) package of taco seasoning.
- When the ground beef is done cooking in a skillet. Drain all the fat and add in 7 teaspoons of Taco Seasoning plus ¾ cup of water. Let simmer until the sauce has evaporated.
Storage Tips
Always store leftovers in clean, food-grade containers. The type of container doesn’t really matter. Use zip lock, glass, plastic, whatever! Just make sure the food is sealed tight before storing in the fridge or freezer.
