Skinny Bang Bang Shrimp - A lightened up version of Bang Bang shrimp that is low calorie and WW friendly! A copycat version of BoneFish Grill’s.
I recently tried Bang Bang shrimp at the Ground Round. If you don't have a Ground Round, it's pretty much like a Ruby Tuesdays type restaurant. On their menu, they had this appetizer called Boom Boom Shrimp. Boom Boom shrimp is similar to the famous Bang Bang Shrimp dish at Bonefish Grill. While we were eating the shrimp we pretty much made fun of the name the whole time because we thought it was so silly.
I know, talk about childish right? ha ha. The shrimp was deep fried and covered in this wonderful spicy hot sauce and underneath it was a bed of coleslaw that had taco seasoning in it. The taco seasoning in the coleslaw was very different. I've never had any cole slaw like that before and it was super good. As Guy Fierri would say "It took me on the road to flavor town!"
I'm going to start keeping this sauce in my fridge at all times. It'd be good on burgers or brushed on grilled corn.
How to make Bang Bang Shrimp
- If you're grilling, be sure to soak wood skewers a couple minutes in water to avoid burning)
- Combine yogurt, onion, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha in a bowl and stir well. Set aside. (if you want to make the sauce a bit thicker, do 2 T yogurt and 1 T light mayo)
- Place 5 shrimp on each skewer
- If shrimp are raw: grill on each side for 5-8 minutes, until opaque and cooked through
- If shrimp are pre-cooked: place shrimp skewers on a baking sheet and bake at 350 for 5-10 minutes
- Air Fryer method: Set the timer to 400 degrees and fry the shrimp in small batches for 6 minutes. Do not coat the shrimp with sauce until they are done cooking in the air fryer. I would not use wooden skewers for this.
- Brush each hot skewer liberally with the sauce, on both sides serve immediately.
Ingredients for Bang Bang Shrimp
Shrimp - There are thousands of ways to cook your shrimp. Grill or air fry. See my methods below in the recipe. I always make sure my shrimp are defrosted first. Place the frozen shrimp in a bowl with some water. Takes less than an hour to defrost.
Wooden Skewers - I prefer cooking shrimp with wooden skewers on the grill. Makes them easier to turn and flip. I’ve also used foil and cooked them in packets.
Greek Yogurt - Can sub mayo instead of yogurt but the points will no longer be zero then.
Sweet chili sauce - Brands I like for Sweet chili sauce are Franks or Maggi
Sriracha sauce - Do not leave this ingredient out!
Serve Bang Bang shrimp on a bed of coleslaw or have it with a side of rice and some asparagus. There are recipes floating around for bang bang shrimp pasta.

When you first load the page that is the original recipe which calls for 1.5 tablespoons.
The scale is there to help you adjust the recipe if you need to serve more or fewer people.
Megan says
Does this recipe use 1.5 or 5.5 T of sweet chili sauce? When I initially open the page, it says 1.5T. If I click on the ingredient adjusting scale option for “1x”, it changes to 5.5T. Obvious that a big difference in points for blue!

I’m excited to try this! Just for clarification- for raw shrimp do you grill THEN air fry them? Or is it grill (raw), bake (for pre-cooked) or air fryer (precooked or raw) and you only use one cooking method?
Jenna says
There are multiple ways to cook shrimp! Baked, air fried, pan-fried, etc..

I love bang bang shrimp from bahama breeze, I however only tolerate the shrimp part because its breaded and you can barely feel the texture... I am going to make this this week but use grilled chicken... I am so excited for the bang bang sauce recipe!! thank you!!!

Yes, cook shrimp in air fryer until they are done. Then mix the sauce together and toss the cooked shrimp in the sauce.
