Ingredients for Apple Crisp
- Apples (any kind)Â - Fuji, Honey Crisp, Granny Smith, Gala, or Red Delicious. Honey Crisp is better in the Fall.
- Cinnamon - Is a spice that comes from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum.
- Lemon Juice - is a citrus juice made from squeezing the juice of fresh lemons. It is commonly used as a flavoring agent in cooking, baking, and beverages.
- Brown sugar - Is made by combining granulated white sugar with molasses, which gives it a brown color and a slightly different taste than regular white sugar.
Topping
- Flour - Most baking recipes will require some type of flour. In order to get the right amount level off the flour with a spoon.
- Salt - Kosher salt is the best for baking
- Old fashioned oats - Also known as rolled oats, are a type of oatmeal that has been steamed and rolled to create flat, oval-shaped flakes. They are a popular breakfast food and can be cooked on the stove or in the microwave with water or milk.
- Cold butter - Is what creates the crumbly streusel topping that goes on top of the apple crisp. It sticks to the oats and makes that nice crunching topping that everyone loves!

How to make Air Fryer Apple Crisp
Apple crisp should have a crisp and buttery streusel topping and the air fryer is really good at producing that. The apples cook covered for 15 minutes. Then the foil gets removed and the apples will bake for another 5 minutes is up, then I add the streusel topping on and continue cooking for another 5 minutes. I’ve tried making apple crisp before in an Instant Pot and that was more like apple oatmeal. The topping didn’t even get crispy at all.
Step 1: Preheat air fryer to 350 degrees F. Butter a 5-in oval baking dish.
Step 2: Peel, core, and cut the apples into small cubes. Combine the apples with the lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon. Pour into the dish.
Step 3: Cover the dish with the aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes. Open up the air fryer and continue cooking for 5 more minutes uncovered.Â
Step 3: To make the topping, combine the flour, sugars, salt, oatmeal, and cold butter in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on low speed until the mixture is crumbly and the butter is the size of peas. Scatter evenly over the apples.
Place the crisp back in your air fryer uncovered for 5 more minutes.
What to serve with Apple Crisp
Enjoy with some melted caramel sauce on top, whipped topping, or vanilla bean ice cream!
Recipe FAQs
Some air fryers come with an accessory kit that include a baking pan and silicon cupcake molds but others don't and you have to buy items separately. I bought this smaller pie plate at a kitchen store and couldn't wait to test it with my air fryer with this apple crisp recipe.
Some examples of dishes that work in an air fryer are 4 oz ramekins, aluminum pans, pyrex, and my ceramic 5" in pie dish that I bought at a kitchen supply store. Another key to baking in your air fryer is to make sure the pan fits in the air fryer basket you have. That's pretty much a no brainer right?
An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks by circulating hot air around the food using the convection mechanism. It is a downsized version of the convection oven.Â
When you compare air fried food to deep-fried food it is much healthier because there is hardly any oil used at all. The only oil I use is from my Pam cooking spray.

A of all I love your sassy replies. B of all I just got a toaster oven/air fryer combo and am excited to try all of your air fryer recipes (except maybe this one because I totally have a points friendly apple crisp recipe - but I’m going to use your air fryer directions because it means not turning on the oven for one little dish.....wait, that’s why you make it in an air fryer and not the oven).
🙂
Jenna says
Why don't you use an oven? It's my blog and I can do what I want. Thanks!
Gina L Lane says
But why???? What is wrong with using an oven?
I don't get using a fryer for this dish.
Jenna says
If there are no points listed on the recipes I post that means it's not WW friendly.

I get 16 points per serving? How is that ww friendly?
