Candy Shop Trifle

Have any leftover Halloween candy you don’t know what to do with? Make this Trifle. It’s layers of moist chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, whipped topping, and candy. For this, I used my favorite Reese’s Pieces and Peanut Butter Cups but you can use whatever chocolate-flavored candy you have leftover!

Desserts can be tricky making them for only 1 or 2 people and over the years I’ve managed to become pretty good at that. I made this with a friend back in 2013 once and we both loved it. It was WAY too much food for two people though.

Recipe Tips and Tricks

Make cupcakes for 6 people instead of the whole box. I used the same recipe for a normal cake mix on the back of the box but used these measurements.

1 cup of cake mix + 1 egg + ⅓ cup of water + 3 tablespoons of oil and baked them until they were done. About 18 to 22 minutes.

Instead of making a whole box of pudding use the already portioned sized pudding cups

Cool Whip doesn’t come in smaller containers. The smallest one is 8 ozs. Just use any leftovers for dipping with fruits. Another option to use instead of Cool Whip is Reddi Whip in the spray can.

Candy:  This post was last updated I’ve been able to find a baking mix of Reese’s Pieces and smaller sized Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. This can be found next to the chocolate chips in the baking aisle!

If you don’t like these options just pick your favorite leftover Halloween Candy and chop them up into bite size pieces.

How to make Candy Shop Trifle

Bake the cake as per the directions on the box. Let cool completely.

Let cool whip thaw out until it's easier to spread.

Crumble the cake into a trifle dish (or bowl), top with ½ of the pudding mixture, then add a layer of cool whip (½ the container), and then sprinkle ½ of the chopped Reese peanut butter cups and ½ the bag of Reese's pieces.

Do another layer exactly the same: cake, pudding, cool whip, candy.

Put the 2 tablespoon of peanut butter into the microwave for about 45 seconds to melt, then drizzle over top of the trifle.
