I just love last-minute ideas that don’t require much thought, especially for parties. Take some pudding cups from Snack Pack or Jello and decorate them like a graveyard. I crushed up some Oreos in a food processor until it resembled dirt.

Then I wrote RIP with black food coloring gel on a Milano cookie and placed a pumpkin candy and gummy worm on top of the dirt. These are so simple and easy to make even the kiddos will love making them with you.

What do I need to make Dirt Cups?

    • 4 3 oz servings of pudding cups
    • 8 Oreos, processed into fine dirt
    • 4 gummy worms
    • 4 small pumpkin candies
    • 4 Milano Cookies
    • Black Food Coloring Gel

How to make Graveyard Dirt Cups

    1. Process the Oreo cookies in a blender or food processor until they resemble dirt.
    2. Top the pudding cups with the dirt.
    3. Place one gummy worm, one pumpkin on each dirt cup.
    4. Write RIP with black food coloring gel on each cookie and insert the cookie into the pudding Cup.
    5. Enjoy!

    Ideas for Dirt Cups

Any of the following food can be made into dirt. Chocolate graham cracker wafers, chocolate wafers, or Oreos can be crushed up in your food processor to look like that.

If you don’t have a food processor a blender will work or place the cookies into a zip lock bag, seal it shut, and smash the those cookies with a rolling pin. It’s a good way to let out aggression.

If you wish to make sand instead of dirt crush up some graham crackers or vanilla wafers.

    Decorating

Dirt Cups can be decorated however you like, not just for Halloween. You can make dirt cups for Easter or make beach themed dirt cups. For decorations, I took a Milano cookie and wrote RIP in black food coloring gel. If you are not familiar with black food coloring gel, it is kind of difficult to work with. I struggled a bit trying to write out RIP on the tombstone. There, I warned you ahead of time.

Food coloring gel frosting for writing can be found at craft stores or places like Target and Wal-Mart.

Place any kind of gummy worm on one side of the cup and a small candy pumpkin from Brachs on top of the dirt. Sour patch gummies would be good too. Pretty much anything can be done.

Have you seen the cake recipe for kitty litter cake? It’s basically the same concept but instead of gummy worms tootsie rolls were placed on the dirt to make it look like well…. Poo. 🙂 Kitty Litter Dirt Cups lol

    Pudding Dirt Cups

    Serving Sizes

This recipe makes a total of 4 dirt cups. 1 dirt cup with crushed oreos, 1 cookie, 1 gummy worm, and 1 pumpkin candy is a serving size.

    Recipe FAQ

What do I do with all the leftover candy?

My recipe makes only 4 dirt cups so that means a lot of leftover candy. The recipe is very easy to make more of. If you plan on having a party you can make a Halloween candy charcuterie board with all the leftovers. 🙂

Can I make my own pudding?

Yes, feel free to make homemade pudding or a box of instant chocolate pudding if you so desire.

Can I make dirt cups ahead of time?

You can make dirt cups ahead of time. I like my pudding cold and store them in the fridge. Find a plate or serving platter large enough to hold all the dirt cups ahead of time and make sure they are covered or else the cookies will get stale.
