Limoncello Martini

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

I know lemon drop martinis are all the rage but this is a simple cocktail made with limoncello and vodka. The glass gets lined with sugar which still gives you that lemon drop flavor. If you don’t like a really strong martini try adding in some Sprite or simple syrup to the drink.

Trying out new cocktail recipes is something I enjoy and I love a good fruity and sweet cocktail. Beer is to bitter-tasting for me and that is why I prefer sweeter drinks. This is like a condensed recipe for a Lemon Drop Martini. The limoncello is used as a short cut instead of fresh lemons.

The next two weeks while my kitchen is being worked on, I’ll be sharing some drink recipes and grilling recipes!

Limencello Martini

How is Limoncello made?

Limoncello is a popular Italian liquor and it is very simple to make at home. The Italian drink is made in Southern Italy by the Almafi Coast. The area there has some of the best soil for growing the perfect lemons!

Add lemon zest to a glass jar and pour in the vodka. Let the lemon and vodka rest in the jar for up to one week. When that is ready add simple syrup which is equal parts sugar and water.  Stir the vodka mix into the simple syrup. Strain out the lemon zest and add the it back to a the jar to be stored.

Ingredients for Limoncello Martini

Lemon wedge, for rimming – this helps the sugar stick to the edge of the glass

Granulated sugar – the sugar helps add a little sweetness to the drink

Ice – never serve a warm cocktail, it must always be cold.

Vodka – use a good brand of Vodka such as Grey Goose or Absolut Vodka

Lemon round, for garnish – optional

How to make a Limoncello Martini

  1. Fill a martini shaker with ice.
  2. Slice a lemon in half, and rub the lemon wedge around the edge of a martini glass.
  3. Fill a small plate with sugar and dip the edge of the glass in the sugar.
  4. Add the vodka, limoncello to the martini shaker. Shake to combine.
  5. Pour into the prepared glass lined with sugar.
