Egg Roll in a Bowl (aka Crack Slaw) as some people like to call it, is a healthier alternative to eggrolls! People love this dish and it is low carb and Weight Watcher Friendly. See my tips below for other dietary needs. This dish is also perfect for lunch or dinner.

Have you heard of this recipe yet? Egg Roll In a Bowl or Crack Slaw to me is a low carb version of egg rolls minus the egg roll wrapper and it is served in a bowl. Pretty simple and really easy to make. Watch my video below this to see how simple it is. This is a pretty legit recipe for the inside of egg rolls and I think I might even use the rest of it to make real egg rolls in my air fryer tomorrow.

Ingredients Needed

- Packaged coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots) - The first two ingredients usually I can find them together in a bag. But if you want more crunch get another bag of carrots to add to it.
- Carrots - Are semi high in carbs, use a whole cabbage and chop that up instead of cole slaw mix and omit the carrots. Keto or Low carb dieters leave carrots out.
- Ground Turkey - to keep it lower points. Sometimes I like using sausage for this but it will be higher in points. Sorry the pic above should say ground turkey lol
- Low sodium soy sauce -It may come to a shock for some people but soy sauce contains gluten. To make this recipe gluten-free sub coconut aminos in place of soy sauce. Sesame oil is made from sesame seeds so it is gluten free.
- Sesame oil - This is 1 ½ teaspoon for 2 points. The whole recipe is 2 points if you are using zero point protein options but if you divide the recipe into 6 equal portions the recipe is now zero points.
- Minced ginger - I like to get the minced ginger in a tube - this can be found in the refrigerator section at the grocery store
- Scallions and sesame seeds for Garnish
Protein Substitutions
- Ground Turkey - Ground turkey is another lean protein that works well with cabbage, garlic, ginger, and soy sauce. It is perfect for a lighter meal. This is what I used for protein in this recipe to make it low in points
- Chicken Egg Roll In a Bowl - Ground chicken is a lean and budget-friendly option that absorbs the flavors of the sauce beautifully.
- Beef Egg Roll in a Bowl - Ground beef makes the dish heartier and pairs well with the Asian-inspired seasonings. Use lean ground beef and drain any excess grease before adding the vegetables.
- Shrimp Egg Roll in a Bowl - easy Shrimp Egg Roll in a Bowl is a quick, flavorful dinner made with tender shrimp, cabbage, carrots, and a savory homemade sauce
- Pork - Coming Soon!
- Blackstone Egg Roll in a Bowl - if you don't have a skillet you can make this on a flat top griddle!

I have finally turned this recipe into real egg rolls and they come in at 2 points each. See the recipe for Air Fryer Egg Rolls.
Bake or air fry some wonton wrappers to use as scoops for the egg roll.
Make some homemade turkey potstickers in the air fryer to go on the side or some Weight Watchers fried rice.
Sauces such as hoisin or homemade Chinese peanut sauce for dipping
Storage Tips
Always store leftovers in clean, food-grade containers. The type of container doesn’t really matter. Use zip lock, glass, plastic, whatever! Make sure the to store any leftovers in an airtight container before putting it in the freezer or refrigerator.
Reheat leftovers in the microwave.
How to Make Egg Roll in a Bowl on a Blackstone
- Preheat the Griddle: Heat your Blackstone over medium-high heat. You want a nice, even, hot surface across the cooking zones.
- Brown the Protein: Add your ground turkey (or beef/chicken) directly to the hot griddle. Season with salt, pepper, minced garlic, and ground ginger. Use your bench scraper or spatulas to break the meat apart and let it get a nice, lightly browned sear. (If using shrimp, hold off until the very end so they don't overcook).
- Char the Cabbage & Veggies: Push the cooked meat to a slightly cooler side of the griddle (or a warming rack) to keep it warm. Drop your coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots) directly onto the hot center of the flat top. Let it sit undisturbed for a minute or two to get a little bit of that smoky, charred griddle flavor, then toss frequently until wilted but still crisp-tender.
- Bring It Together: Toss the cooked protein back in with the cabbage and veggies. Drizzle your egg roll sauce (soy sauce, sesame oil, and any sweeteners or chili garlic sauce) right over the top. Toss everything together vigorously on the hot flat top until the sauce is evenly distributed and bubbling slightly.

Love bean sprouts! Good idea. Glad everyone loved it.

I made this and put 2 bags of bean sprouts in and put 2 cans of sliced water chestnuts as well. Doubled the recipe for a family dinner....the boys are big eaters. This was a hit with everyone including my 6 year old granddaughter who is pretty fussy. Will be making this again for sure.

I have made this a couple of times with pork and with ground turkey (regular, not breast). There is not much difference in the flavor, so I use ground turkey and save a few points. It would be even fewer points with ground turkey breast. It is a good one to have on hand for a quick lunch or snack. Last time I made it I added Chinese 5 spice, ground mustard, bean sprouts, siracha, chopped mushrooms, and a touch of mirin. I will be adding bamboo shoots or water chestnuts next time as well.
I made a wrap with a light tortilla, about half of a serving of the recipe, a tsp of hoisen, and some uncooked coleslaw mix. So yummy and filling for lunch!
