Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies are made using a few simple ingredients that are already prepared for you and taste way better than any Mcdonald's appie pies. Plus they are super easy to make.

So, I think this year for Christmas, Santa needs something different other than the usual cookies. Don't you think? Like how about these Apple Hand Pies made in the air fryer? I'm guaranteed he will love them.

The air fryer is one of my favorite kitchen appliances. Check out some of these recipes! Air Fryer Chimichangas, Air Fryer Garlic Bread,  Air Fryer Fish and Chips, Air Fryer Lamb Chops with Garlic and Rosemary, and Air Fryer Toasted Ravioli.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

These apple hand pies remind me of those deep fried, extremely fatty yummy pies that you get at Mcdonald's.

Making apple pies in the air fryer saves half the calories and these apple pies only require 2 ingredients.

Store bought apple pie filling (in the can) and an already made pie crust. The canned apple pie filling really reminded me of the filling that Mcdonald's uses in their apple pies.

This is by far the best thing that I have made in my air fryer to date. Check out my video on youtube!

    Ingredients Needed

    Ingredients needed or apple pies.
    • Dough - Use a store bought pie crust such as Pillsbury or make my recipe for 2 Ingredient Dough. It is equal parts self-rising flour and Greek Yogurt.
    • Apple pie filling - If you don't want to use a can of pie filling I'd suggest making your own homemade apple filling in the Fall and freeze in bags. My recipe for Freezer Apple Pie Filling has ground cinnamon, brown sugar and regular sugar, and lemon juice. You can purchase apple pie filling from a can (I won't tell).

    Additional Toppings

    • Egg - for brushing on top of the pie crust to make it really crispy (optional)
    • Cinnamon and Sugar - gives the crust a sweet and crunchy texture.
    • Vanilla Bean Ice Cream to serve on the side
    • See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

How to Make Air Fryer Apple Pies

Step 1: Lay the pie crust flat on a clean surface. Cut as many equal square pieces as you can into squares.

Cutting pie crust squares to make for apple hand pies.

Step 2: Place about 2 tablespoons of the pie filling onto the pie crust and seal the pie filling shut.

Step 3: Prick the sides of the pie crust with a fork or use your fingers to press into the pie crusts to help seal them shut. Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

Step 4: Set the temp of your air fryer to 390. Place the apple hand pies in an even layer in your air fryer basket. You can brush them with egg wash if you want to. I just spray them with some cooking spray.

The hand pies air fry for 8 to 10 minutes until they are golden brown.

    Serving size: 1 pie.

    Recipe Tips

I got 4 equal squares from one serving of pie crust when rolled out.

If there's any holes in the pies use the leftover pieces that were cut off to fill them in.

Use some parchment paper in your air fryer basket for easy clean up. The pie dough can be kind of messy to work with.

    Recipe FAQS

What can I serve apple pies?

You can serve these apple pies with some homemade caramel sauce,  whipped topping such as Cool Whip or Whipped Cream.

What if I don't have a square cookie cutter?

Just cut out even size squares or rectangles from the pie dough.

    How do I store leftovers?

Always store leftovers in clean, food-grade containers. The type of container doesn’t really matter. Use zip lock, glass, or plastic containers.

Do I need to preheat an air fryer?

Some air fryers require preheating and some do not. Be sure to check your air fryer manual.

What air fryer do I use?

I have two air fryers. The Cosori 4 Qt Air Fryer and Ninja Woodfire Grill which is an outdoor air fryer. It’s pretty awesome! It has 5 different functions on it.

How to make a WW friendly apple pie

This recipe calls for store-bought pie crust and a can of apple filling. To make a more Weight Watcher friendly version use the recipe for 2 ingredient dough.

If you make the recipe for 2 ingredient dough the pie would be 4 points per serving. Otherwise, one apple pie made with pie crust is 7. I did not use the whole entire can of pie filling for this. I used about ⅓ cup to ½ cup of pie filling. If you want to use sugar-free pie filling you can, I do not like the taste of sugar-free food.

How big should the squares of pie crust be? Do you just place another square of crust on top after putting the filling in? If I wanted to have cinnamon and sugar on the outside, would I put it on before or after cooking?

      Thanks for the tip Audra.

Our air fryer has 3 shelves and only the top shelf baked in the 8 min and needed flipped half way through. So I had to rotate the shelves or just do one shelf at a time. Just an adjustment if you have a fryer like that also.
