It was my Birthday on Thursday this week and my one friend got me a new grill and I love it. It is so much different then a smoker. Smokers are meant to be used for cooking food low and slow and this grill heats up to 500 degrees so fast compared to a smoker. The only thing I've never done before is change out the gas tank.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

Are you a fan of using really simple ingredients like me? These marinade ingredients are all store-bought products and this easy grilled chicken recipe has ingredients you can  find at the grocery store. P.S. You can find these all at Aldi as well.

If you want to make homemade Italian Dressing or Teriyaki sauce then go for it!

Keep these items in your fridge all Summer long! It takes less than 5 minutes to make this marinade.

Try this marinade out on griled ribs, pork chops, or shrimp!

    Ingredients Needed

Ingredients needed for 3 ingredient chicken marinade.

Italian dressing - If you really want to go all out you can make your own homemade Italian Dressing or Teriyaki sauce.

Teriyaki sauce - can also use any type of BBQ sauce

    Garlic - freshly minced

4 -6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves. Can also use chicken thighs or even a whole chicken.

Other Marinade Ingredients to Keep in Your Pantry

If you want to start experimenting with making different marinades on your own try keeping these extra items in your pantry or fridge. The recipe above is a good base marinade to start off with for beginners. Once you learn how to make your own marinades you can start emssing with flavor.

Sauces: Honey, Dijon mustard, Soy sauce, lemon juice, vinegar, and oils.

Spices: Garlic powder, onion powder, cumin,  ginger, oregano, black pepper, and salt

Fresh herbs such as parsley and cilantro, limes, and lemons

How to Make Grilled Chicken Marinade

Step 1: In a bowl or a gallon zip lock bag, add the Italian dressing, teriyaki sauce, and minced garlic; stir or whisk to combine.

Step 2: Add the chicken breast halves; cover and marinate in the refrigerator overnight.

Step 3: Grill over hot coals for approximately 10 minutes on each side or until juices run clean.

Grilled chicken breasts marinaded in 3 ingredients on a grill.

Note: Marinades can get rather sticky on the grill. It is best to clean them up right away after the chicken is done cooking.

    How to Properly Grill Chicken

Then season chicken generously with salt and pepper. Add the chicken to the marinade in a gallon zip-lock bag. Using long tongs, place chicken breasts on grill and cook, covered on high, 3 minutes. Flip breasts and continue cooking on high, 3 more minutes.

Reduce grill heat to low and flip chicken again. To cook the chicken faster split the breasts in half. Larger chicken breasts will take longer to grill of course. If you are using this marinade you will not need to drizzle olive oil over your chicken.
