Learn how to make Hibachi Yum Yum sauce at home. You can use it on top of steak, chicken, shrimp, fish, salads, rice, and vegetables. It’s easy to make and uses ingredients that are already in your kitchen.
On Wednesday I shared a recipe for Hibachi Chicken and Vegetables and here is the sauce recipe. I’ve seen some interesting variations of this recipe online but this is the one I liked the most. Some people swear by KewPie mayo being the best and other recipes added sriracha sauce, cilantro, or honey but it’s not a spicy sauce at all. If you want to add those ingredients, go for it. It’s your kitchen and not mine! 🙂

What Ingredients do I need?
In this section, you can find substitutes or suggestions for certain ingredients. I also will try and list out what the ingredients' purpose is for.
Mayo - Some people swear by Kewpie Mayo for this recipe. Kewpie mayo is a Japanese mayo that comes in a plastic squeezable bag. Look in Asian grocery stores for it cause regular grocery stores won’t have this.
To lighten this sauce up use a reduced fat or fat free mayo. If you aren’t looking to do that use the regular mayo!
Ketchup - Sugar Free or Regular ketchup
Sugar - for sweetness can sub honey
Melted Butter - I really think this is what gives the sauce such rich and creamy flavor. There’s no other substitute for it.
Spices - Garlic Powder, Pepper, Paprika - gives the sauce it’s pink color
How to make Hibachi Yum Yum Sauce
- Melt the butter in the microwave for 30 seconds and let it cool down for a couple minutes.
- Combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, water, white sugar, melted butter, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, water, and vinegar in a bowl to make the yum yum sauce. Stir well.
- Serve with the fried rice and chicken and vegetables.
