Wonton Soup is ready in under 15 minutes and is the perfect side dish to serve with your favorite Chinese take out!

Do you ever start to accumulate a bunch of food in your freezer, that you wonder why on Earth you ever bought this stuff? I do this all the time now that Aldi is here and they have so many delicious freezer foods to stock up on. A couple of weeks ago, Asian food was on special, so I picked up a package of frozen chicken wontons. They’re good air-fried or in a simple soup such as this one. The wontons cook right in the broth so you don’t have to have another pan going to heat them up.
Simple ingredients that are staples in my pantry: fresh chopped garlic (I buy this stuff by the jar full), ginger, chicken broth, and soy sauce. If you keep these items in your pantry you can whip on an easy simple soup in no time.

Ingredients Needed

- Grated ginger - I love the grated ginger that comes in a tube already made.
- Minced fresh garlic - Chopped fresh garlic can take some time to chop so I often always use the freshly minced garlic that comes already made in a jar.
- Lower sodium soy sauce - Use a Low Sodium or if you don’t have that on hand go for Tamari or Coconut Amino Acids
- Chicken Broth - Miso Broth (if you live near a Trader Joe's please use this instead of Chicken broth it has better flavor)
- Frozen Chicken dumplings or wontons - I love the ones at Trader Joe's.
- Scallions, chopped
- See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
How to make Dumpling Wonton Soup
Step 1: Heat sesame oil in a small pot over medium-low heat. Add garlic and ginger, and cook, stirring frequently, until fragrant; about 1-2 minutes.

Step 2: Add the soy sauce and chicken broth to the pot. Bring the broth to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, and add the package of frozen wontons. About 3 to 5 minutes. The wontons are ready when they float to the top of the broth.

Serve immediately.
Garnish the soup with chopped scallions.
Serving size: 1 cup.
How do you know a frozen dumpling is done?
Once they float to the surface, give them another 1-2 minutes. This ensures the frozen center is fully piping hot without overcooking the delicate dough.
Best Wonton Soup Tips
The biggest fail for home cooks is wontons falling apart in the broth.
Low-Point Tips The "Wonton-Lite" Hack (0 Points): If you're out of wrappers or saving points, use the same filling to make "naked" wonton meatballs. Simmer them directly in the broth; they hold together beautifully and satisfy the craving for much lower points.
Enhance the broth flavor: Don't just use plain chicken stock. Simmer your broth with a smashed knob of ginger and two scallions for 10 minutes.
Turn off the heat before adding a dash of toasted sesame oil. This keeps the delicate aromatics from evaporating, giving you that authentic restaurant-quality scent.

Just made this tonight. So easy and a warm, quick dinner for a stormy rainy night. The broth had a little tangy taste to it. Not sure if it was the broth I used or maybe too much ginger? Definitely will be making again and twerking it to my family's taste but soooo delicious!

If I had the bag of wontons right now I would look at the serving size but unfortunately, I don't.
