Pro Tips for Sour Cream Noodle Bake
- Do not overcook the egg noodles since they will continue cooking in the oven.
- Use freshly shredded cheddar cheese for the best melting texture.
- Let the casserole rest before slicing to help it set properly.
- Add mushrooms or diced bell peppers to the meat sauce for extra vegetables.
- If you prefer a little heat, stir crushed red pepper flakes into the meat sauce.
- Prepare the casserole a day ahead and refrigerate it until ready to bake.
- Cover loosely with foil if the cheese begins browning too quickly during baking.
Storage
Store leftover sour cream noodle bake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
To reheat, warm individual portions in the microwave until heated through. Larger portions can be reheated in a 350 degree F oven, covered with foil to prevent the casserole from drying out.
This casserole also freezes very well. Wrap the fully baked casserole tightly with plastic wrap and aluminum foil or transfer portions to freezer-safe containers. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating for the best texture.
