Why You Will Like This Recipe

Pigs in a blanket are one of those recipes I grew up eatingโ€”and now I love putting a modern spin on them using the air fryer. As a food blogger who specializes in simple comfort food and air fryer recipes, I always look for shortcuts that donโ€™t sacrifice taste. This one is a winner, every time.

    • Quick and easy to make with minimal prep
    • Perfectly crispy outside without overcooking
    • Great for parties, snacks, or easy dinners
    • Uses simple, budget-friendly ingredients
    • Kid-friendly and crowd-approved
    • Pairs well with dips and comfort sides like crock pot mac and cheese

Iโ€™ve tested this recipe with 2 Ingredient Dough (3 Ways!), Fat Head Pizza Crust for low carb, biscuit dough, even puff pastry.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket

    • 1 already prepared pizza dough crust - I used the Mama Cozzi pizza dough from Aldi or you can make this recipe for Bobby Flay Pizza Dough
    • 12 mini sausages or cocktail franks: These are the star of the show, providing a juicy, savory bite.
    • 1 egg, beaten (optional): For an egg wash that gives the rolls a beautiful golden brown finish.
    • Everything Bagel Seasoning or Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional): Add a sprinkle on top for extra flavor and texture. Make your own bagel seasoning Trader Joe's Bagel Seasoning Recipe

How to Make Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket

Step 1 Preheat your air fryer to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC). This ensures even cooking and a perfect golden crust.

Cocktail weiners and pizza dough rolled up in a blanket.

Step 2 Prepare the pizza dough by unrolling it and separating it into individual balls of dough. Then wrap each mini sausage in a triangle of dough, starting at the wide end and rolling towards the point. Seal the edges by pressing the dough together gently.

Step 3 Place the wrapped sausages seam-side down in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each to allow even cooking. Cook in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is golden and crispy. Check at the 5-minute mark to ensure even cooking.

Step 4 Remove from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, mustard, or honey mustard.

    Recipe Tips and Tricks

    • Do not overcrowd the basket. Air circulation is key for even browning.
    • Use parchment liners made for air fryers if you want easier cleanup.
    • Rotate or flip halfway through if your air fryer cooks unevenly.
    • Keep an eye on them during the last few minutes since crescent dough browns quickly.
    • If making for a party, cook in batches and keep warm in a low oven.

    Storage

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To reheat, place them back in the air fryer at 325 degrees for 2 to 3 minutes. This helps bring back the crisp texture better than using a microwave.

You can also freeze them after cooking. Let them cool completely, then store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months. Reheat directly from frozen in the air fryer until warmed through.

    Serving Suggestions

These are incredibly versatile and go with so many sides. For a full comfort meal, serve them alongside crock pot mac and cheese. The creamy, slow-cooked cheese sauce pairs perfectly with the flaky, savory bites.

    Other great serving ideas include:

    • A platter with dipping sauces like honey mustard, ranch, or spicy ketchup
    • A snack board with chips, veggies, and dips
    • A game day spread with wings and sliders
    • A simple dinner with a side salad or roasted vegetables

    Recipe FAQS

What air fryer do I use?

ย I have two air fryers. The Cosori 4 Qt Air Fryer and Ninja Woodfire Grill which is an outdoor air fryer. Itโ€™s pretty awesome! It has 5 different functions on it.ย

Do I have to preheat the air fryer?

It is recommended for the best texture and even cooking, but most recipes will still work without it.

Can I make pigs in a blanket ahead of time?

Yes! Wrap the sausages and store them in the fridge for up to a day. Air fry just before serving.
