Why You Will Like This Recipe

The recipe below says to make the buffalo chicken mixture in a bowl and that works as well, but another main way I make my buffalo chicken dip is on a stovetop with some canned chicken, cream cheese, and cheddar. I just let all the ingredients combine together until they are heated through and then roll them up in tortillas.

The air fryer is one of my favorite kitchen appliances for cooking frozen food.  Check out some of these recipes for Air Fryer Chicken Cordon Blue, Air Fryer Grilled Cheese, Air Fryer Frozen Onion Rings, and Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan.

    Ingredients Needed

Ingredients needed for buffalo chicken taquitos.

Here is the basic rundown of what is needed for this dish. I’ve also included substitutes that can be used if you do not have any of these items. So yes, it is possible if you plug in the ingredients to your recipe builder you might get a different point option than what I have listed.

    • Cream Cheese  - Neufchatel or Fat-free can be used. Whipped cream cheese is even good for this recipe.
    • Buffalo Sauce - Do not skip this! Franks is the best.
    • Chicken  - There are many methods for making shredded chicken. You can do it in an Instant Pot or Slow Cooker and add the buffalo sauce or use rotisserie shredded chicken. Canned chicken can also be used.
    • Tortillas - Since resharing this recipe, my favorite tortillas have been the Street Style Mission Keto tortillas. They are 25 calories each and you can have 4 of them for only 100 calories.

The points for these buffalo chicken taquitos will vary greatly depending on what brand tortilla you use! My favorite tortillas are La Banderita or Frescados.

    Substitution Tips

    • Flour Tortillas - there are a few options you can choose from here!
    • Ole Extreme Wellness - 1 point each (not one of my favorites)
    • La Banderita Carb Counter Whole Wheat Wraps - 1 point
    • Banderita Carb Counter Low Carb Tortilla - 1 point
    • Fat Free Soft Taco Tortillas - 2 points
    • Frescados Taco Style Tortillas - 2 points

How to make Buffalo Chicken Taquitos

Step 1: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

Step 2: Mix cream cheese and buffalo sauce until well combined. Stir in chicken and cheddar until well combined.

Recipe Tip: The cream cheese needs to be at room temperature.  If you want to make this right away I will sometimes put the cream cheese in the microwave for no longer than a minute and let it soften that way.

Step 3: Place 2-3 Tablespoons of mixture spread into a thin line onto the center of flour tortilla. Roll them up.

Step 4: Lightly grease a cookie sheet and repeat for the remaining taquitos. Arrange the taquitos on a baking sheet. Once taquitos are arranged on cookie sheet, lightly spray the tops with cooking spray.

Bake at 425 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until taquitos are golden brown.

Air Fryer Instructions: 400 degrees for 6 to 9 minutes in a single layer.

    Serving size: 1 taquito

What can I serve with Chicken Taquitos?

There are several delicious options to serve with taquitos. Alton Brown's Guacamole, Smoked Salsa, Smoked Queso , and sour cream are classic accompaniments that add freshness and creaminess to the dish.

Make some Air Fryer Beef Enchiladas or Sweet Potato and Ground Beef Bowls

Rice and beans are also popular sides that provide a filling and satisfying meal. For a lighter option, a simple salad with a vinaigrette dressing can balance out the richness of the taquitos.

Additionally, a side of roasted vegetables like peppers and onions can add a nice contrast in texture and flavor. Overall, the options are endless and can be tailored to personal preferences.

    Recipe FAQS

Can taquitos be made in the air fryer?

Yes, buffalo chicken taquitos can be made in the air fryer! Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees and air fry them for 7 to 10 minutes.

What are chicken taquitos made of?

Chicken taquitos are typically made of shredded chicken that has been seasoned with spices and mixed with cheese and other ingredients. The mixture is then rolled into a tortilla and fried until crispy. Some recipes also include vegetables such as onions and peppers. The taquitos are usually served with a dipping sauce such as salsa or guacamole.

1 taquito is 4 points. I fixed that in the serving size. There are quite a few low point tortilla options out there but the one I like is La Banderita. You will have to use your app and scan them to find low point ones.

Amazing recipe! Thank you for adding the new point values. Which tortillas do you use? How many are a serving size?

I would serve them with Mexican side dishes like corn, beans, or some tortilla chips.

What kind of sides would you recommend with this? What veggies?

Made these for dinner last night and they were good overall. It kind of tasted like buffalo chicken dip in a cooked tortilla, so next time I would add seasonings to make the flavor a little more complex. Simple recipe you can build off of!

I have just made these. I think they needed more spice. Me and my husband loves spicy foods and we loved them with blu cheese or ranch. Super good!
