Making a turkey breast in the Instant Pot was quite the learning process and I’m here to share it with you. I started off with 7 pound bone-in turkey breast and went to the store to get the stuff for the brine recipe Good Eats Turkey Brine. For a really juicy bird on Thanksgiving day I really like to brine them.
On the day I was going to make this in my Instant Pot I drained the brine in a colander and washed the turkey off. I set the turkey breast in my Instant Pot for 45 minutes and added some water to the bottom. What I SHOULD have done first was brown the turkey breast on Saute mode so that the skin would turn brown on each side and lock in the flavors. If you like crispy outer skin on your turkey do not do this. This part is not necessary though the IP still produces a very juicy turkey breast.
Once the turkey breast is done remove the bird from the pot and drain any water. Want gravy with a turkey breast? No problem. This can be done in the IP as well. Set the IP to saute mode and add in the butter. Let it melt and whisk the flour with the butter together, then gradually stir in in chicken broth and let it boil until the gravy becomes thick. Boom. Instant Pot Turkey Breast with Gravy is ready in no time! This saves on oven space as well as stovetop space! I just love utilizing my air fryer or IP on Thanksgiving because of this.

Ingredients Needed
- 1 5 to 7 pound turkey breast (can be boneless or bone-in)
- 1 to 2 tablespoon of olive oil
- Seasoning salt of choice
- 2 tablespoons of flour
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 2 cups of low sodium chicken broth
How to make IP Turkey Breast with Gravy
Drain the brine from the turkey breast and rinse the turkey with water. Pat the turkey dry with some paper towels. Season your turkey with salt and pepper or seasoning salt of choice.
Set your IP to Saute mode. Let the Instant Pot heat up for a while and add in 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sear the turkey breast on all sides.
Turn off Saute Mode. Take out the turkey breast (set it aside on a plate) and add in one cup of water to the bottom of the pot and set a trivet down on the bottom so that you can easily lift the turkey breast up when it is done. Place the turkey breast on top of the trivet.
Cook the turkey breast on the Manual High setting for 45 minutes. Set the vent to sealing mode.
After the 45 minutes is done do a quick release.
Take the bird out of the pot and drain the excess water. If you wish to make gravy press cancel to turn off the pot then set it to Saute mode again. Add in butter and whisk in flour. Gradually add in the chicken stock and let the gravy simmer until thickened.
Recipe FAQS
I have the Instant Pot Duo 6 QT Electric Pressure Cooker. You can find it on Amazon. I'm not sponsored by them, it just a kitchen appliance I really like to use. Gotta love those multi-cookers! The Instant Pot Duo multi-cooker combines 7 appliances in one: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, sauté pan, yogurt maker and warmer – and cooks up to 70% faster!
Don’t be intimidated by your pressure because you’re afraid the lid will pop off or explode! Pressure cookers have built-in features that are for safety reasons. Some of the most common errors made are when the user forgets to turn the venting knob to sealing mode, overfills the pot, or uses the timer button to set the cooking time.
