Smoked Asparagus - this popular vegetable is full of flavor now with the help from your smoker!

I’m so happy it’s grilling and smoking season again! If you don’t have a smoker, don’t worry. I’ll be posting some electric smoker recipes in the next coming weeks that can easily be adapted for the grill as well. I can’t really decide what outdoor cooking appliance I like more but smoking gives food so much extra flavor. The type of smoker I have is a Traeger and I just love it.
Asparagus was never really one of my favorite vegetables until I tried it smoked. The flavor the smoke gives the asparagus is incredible and the type of wood pellets I used was Applewood. Applewood and Maple are my two most used types of pellets for my Traeger smoker.
Why You'll Love this Recipe
This recipe for smoked asparagus is simple ingredients you already have in your pantry which are salt, pepper, and a little olive oil.
Make sure the asparagus are all coated in olive oil before putting them on the smoker. You pick the type of wood or pellets you like. I set my smoker to 225 for an hour and the asparagus was done. I don't like to add too much salt to my food so when I season my vegetables with salt I like to keep it a very minimal amount. Less than ½ teaspoon or just a sprinkle of it on my veggies.
Ingredients for Smoked Asparagus
- 1 bunch of Fresh Asparagus
- Olive Oil
- Salt and Pepper
- Wood pellets of choice
How to make Smoked Asparagus
- Set your smoker to 225 or 230
- Cut the ends off of the asparagus (where they easily snap off and toss them). Place the asparagus in a bowl and drizzle the asparagus with olive oil. Season them with the salt and pepper.
- Place the asparagus on a sheet of tinfoil and fold the sides of the tinfoil up to create a basket.
- Smoke at 230 for 1 hour or until soft. Turn every half hour.

Tips for Smoked Asparagus
Don’t have a smoker? Follow these instructions for grilled asparagus.
- Heat gas or charcoal grill. Cut 18x18-inch sheet of heavy-duty foil. Break off tough ends of asparagus as far down as stalks snap easily. Place asparagus on the center of foil. Top with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Bring up 2 sides of the foil over asparagus so edges meet. Seal edges, making tight ½-inch fold; fold again, allowing space for heat circulation and expansion. Fold other sides to seal.
- Place packet on grill over low heat (250-275 degrees F). Cover grill; cook 10 to 15 minutes, rotating packet ½ turn after 4 minutes, until asparagus is tender.
I like the taste the olive oil gives the asparagus on the grill or smoker and 1 serving of this is 1 smart point on WW. Use a cooking spray such as Pam to keep it at 0.

I never knew you could feed those to your dog! Thanks.

Sounds good!! Will have to try this. BTW, don't throw those snapped or cut ends away. Freeze them and feed them to your dog, if you have one. It's a great healthy treat for them. We mix them with their food or feed them plain as snacks. They love it!
