Top Sirloin Steak: How to Grill

Making top sirloin steak is so easy on the grill and this post will show how to make it!  This Summer will be the year I master grilling different types of meats. Thought I'd start off with a quick how to grill top sirloin steak post.  I like my steaks petite size, just like me.  (I'm 5'4") If you handed me a huge piece of steak that was larger than 6 oz I wouldn't be able to eat it all. Meats by John Wayne (a butcher shop here in town) had these bacon wrapped Top Sirloin steaks and these steaks were the perfect size. I recently discovered Meats by John Wayne here in Fargo. They have a far better meat selection with unique sausages and burgers that I've never seen before at any of the grocery stores here in town. Their seafood selection is also excellent and they carry huge lobster tails, jumbo shrimp, and walleye. Can't wait to try their cranberry brats on the grill this week.

Top Sirloin Steak: How to Grill

How to Grill Top Sirloin Steak

Preheat an outdoor grill to high heat. I set my grill to 375. Season each side of the steak with some seasoning salt of choice. My favorite seasoning salt is from Trader Joes. You can also choose to spritz the steak with I can't believe it's not Butter! Spray. Grill the steaks 4 to 5 minutes per side and this temperature will very depending on how big your top sirloin steaks are.

Tips for Grilling the Perfect Top Sirloin

When looking for a steak at the supermarket or butcher shop look for one that is 1 to 1 ½ inches thick, has a bright red color, and some marble to it. The marble in the steak is the fat and that will give you a lot of flavor and tenderness.

Leaving the top sirloin steak out before cooking it on the grill for an hour or 2 will help the steak from charring really fast once it hits the grill.

Make sure your grill is nice and hot. Set it to the highest temperature that it will go. Keep the grill closed once the steak is on there. Lifting the grill too many times will release heat.

Once you flip the steak, it will take 3 to 4 minutes to reach medium rare and 5 to 6 minutes to reach medium.

To test if the steak is done, with the steak with your fingers for medium rare the steak should feel spongy in texture.

What to serve with Top Sirloin Steak

When I had my steak I also grilled some corn on the side. Keep in mind that grilled corn takes longer to cook than the steak does so I'd start cooking the corn first. Potato Salad will also be good, and I plan on posting a recipe for that later on.
