Why You Will Like This Recipe

Sirloin is one of the best cuts for grilling—it’s leaner than ribeye, more tender than round, and more affordable than filet. I’ve grilled dozens of steaks over the years, and sirloin consistently delivers that steakhouse-style bite without the high price tag.

It’s ideal for quick dinners, meal prep, or weekend cookouts when you want something satisfying and impressive.

I've made quite a bit of steak recipes on this blog so I'm very familiar with cooking it. Try Air Fryer Steak Fajitas, Blackstone Steak Bites High Protein, Carnivore Steak, or even Steak on Blackstone Griddle (How To)

    Ingredients Needed

Ingredients need for How to Grill Top Sirloin Steak.
    • Petite top sirloin steak  - (1 to 1 /2 in thick) - sometimes these will come wrapped in bacon and sometimes they will not.
    • Melted butter - you can also make a garlic butter sauce to brush over the steak, olive oil will also work
    • Salt and pepper - to taste
    • See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

    Substitution Tips

    • Oil: Use ghee or beef tallow for a carnivore or Whole30-friendly version.
    • Seasoning: Skip garlic powder for a strict carnivore approach or swap in your favorite rub or marinade.
    • Steak cut: This method works for NY strip or ribeye too—just adjust cook time for thickness.

    Pro Tips for Cooking Steak

    • Use tongs instead of a fork—piercing the meat releases those delicious juices.
    • Dry the steak before seasoning for a better sear.
    • Add a pat of compound butter on top after grilling for extra richness.
    • If using a Blackstone, add a splash of Worcestershire or garlic butter at the end for a flavor boost.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Pair with grilled vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes, or a fresh green salad.
    • Make steak tacos, bowls, or wraps with leftovers.
    • Serve with a side of chimichurri or blue cheese butter for steakhouse vibes.
    • Drizzle the steak with some homemade pesto - Weight Wathchers Pesto

What to serve with Top Sirloin Steak

For a vegetable try top sirloin steak with grilled corn the cob and smoked potatoes on my Traeger on the side. The smoked potatoes will take a little longer to cook.

I love serving potatoes with my steak in any form possible. Make Air Fryer Twice Baked Potato or my Aunt Carol's Potato Salad.

Paula Deen's Crock Pot Mac and Cheese will have people at your pot luck asking for the recipe.

    • 4 tablespoons of melted butter
    • Salt and pepper to taste

    Instructions

    1. Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil the grate.
    2. Season both sides of each steak with salt and pepper.
    3. Place steaks on preheated grill and cook 5-7 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 140 degrees F (60  degrees C) for medium doneness.
    4. Transfer steaks to warmed plates; brush the tops liberally with melted butter (option and allow to rest for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.

    Notes

Smart points will very depending on how much your steak weighs.

Leave the steak out for 30 minutes before grilling so that it comes to room temperature.

To test if the steak is done, with the steak with your fingers for medium rare the steak should feel spongy in texture.
