The Cabbage Soup Diet
Cabbage soup is the magical soup that's supposed to help with weight loss and there is even a diet named after it called the Cabbage Soup Diet. It is a very strict diet where you can lose up to 10 pounds. For an entire week, you eat large amounts of this soup but during this time (7 days) you can also eat other foods like fruits and vegetables, beef, chicken, and brown rice according to Mayo Clinic's website.
I give props to anyone that can follow a strict diet like that. I could never just eat cabbage soup for that long of a time period. In fact, I'd get pretty bored with it. That is the brilliant part about myWW. It's zero points and can be served for lunch or dinner. Plus, you're getting in vegetables for the day.
How to make Cabbage Soup
- Spray pot with nonstick cooking spray. Saute onions carrots and garlic for 5 minutes.
- Add broth, Tomato paste, cabbage, green beans, basil, oregano, and Salt & Pepper to taste.
- Simmer for about 5-10 minutes until all vegetables are tender then add the zucchini and simmer for another 5 or so minutes.
- I have tried different variations. Leaving out green beans. Adding chopped green onions in addition to the yellow onion.
- All very good. You can customize it to your liking.
What can I serve cabbage soup?
- You don't just want to eat this zero point soup all day if you're on a diet, you need some protein and carbs to help keep you full.
- Carbs: Try making my Air Fryer Garlic Bread recipe or Easy Cheesy Garlic Bread sticks as a side.
- Protein: Make some air fryer chicken breast or air fryer salmon. Check out How to Grill Top Sirloin Steak which would make this even fancier.

We love this soup! I add a little more seasoning and tomato paste, and cook in the instant pot! Just saute the vegetables you prefer to be a little softer (onions, carrots), then add the rest of the ingredients including broth. Cover and put vent in sealing position, set on high pressure manual (or pressure cook on newer models) for 15 minutes and boom! Delicious soup super fast. I use the quick release on the vent so the veggies don't turn to mush. Thanks for the recipe!!

Great soup! My husband who is not a weight watcher loves it too! Says it’s the best vegetable soup he’s ever had! I add potatoes & celery as well & he has his with hard crusted bread usually...

Thanks for the recipe. I tried it today following the instructions and it just didn’t have enough flavor for me. Definitely filling and I will finish it since I had to waste food, but probably not a redo. I added some cayenne to give it a kick to help me get through the pit for the next couple of days. Worth a try though for others who like cabbage and very subtle flavors

Thank you.

I use this same recipe. To make it fit our need for spicy Tex Mex flavors I add a can of diced tomatoes with green chilies and some chili powder. I serve it with a few baked tortilla strips on top. Adds a few points but with the soup zero points it is still very low in points.
Jenna says
Nope. It would still be zero!
Carole Lereah says
Does adding chicken change it from zero points?

I love this soup. I add a lb. of Usingers chicken cilantro sausage. Extra of all the spices, onions, carrots, roasted corn, and 1/2 can of tomato paste.

Awesome!
